This is just me ranting.

Please, do NOT turn this into a "Muzzle your pit bull" thread.

I'm sure you all remember me ranting about the lady across the street from this empty lot of triangular land in my neighborhood. She's the one that owns the shih-tzu that I often see off leash walking on this triangular lot of land, peeing all over the area, and barking its head off at anyone who walks by, like people walking by are messing with HER territory. So, now we have an off leash dog on public property that thinks it owns the property.
I have told the owner of this dog that my dog does NOT LIKE other dogs, especially loose ones that run up into her face/space.
I told this lady this over a year ago.

I have had to call AC on this lady because we are constantly rushed by this dog who is clearly and constantly off its property. AC can only go there and tell her to keep her dog on her property. In order for her to get fined, I would have to call the police, too.

I KNOW I'm not the only one complaining about this dog. I was talking to my neighbor the other day who owns a Great Pyrenees, and she was asking me if I was familiar with the lady who lets her "little white dog" loose to harass the neighbors walking by. She was telling me that, Charlie, her dog, would NOT like that little dog running up to him and it worries her.

Anyway, so Ben and I are out walking last night because we are doing this walking exercise thing. We take different routes around the neighborhood as I feel much more comfortable walking Ella when he's with me, when it comes to walking her in different parts of the neighborhood.
NOT a SINGLE loose dog the entire walk, until we are on our last lap, on our way home. By this time it's dark out, but there is a street light that is on the end of the triangular lot of land, that lights up the street next to it. I hear a dog running before it ever barks. I kind of panic because I turn in the direction of the sound, but I cannot see anything. Finally, this rushing, off leash dog hits the light and I see it. I blast it with my air horn and it stops. I yell at it to back off and go home. I turn around and we start walking forward again. It starts running after us, AGAIN. So, I turn around and blast it AGAIN with my air horn. It stops and I yell for it to go home. It runs after us AGAIN. So, I hand Ben Ella's leash, and I start to walk after this dog. I see the freakin' owner, standing there staring at us on the other side of the lot. Just standing there.

So, now I'm even more p!ssed. So...I yell at her. I don't like yelling at my neighbors or causing a riff with any of them. But I kind of lost it. I kind of yelled really loudly at her, "Keep your dog ON a leash, or I WILL call AC."
I didn't drop any f-bombs on her...because Ben took care of that for us...
"We have a f-ing right to walk our dog without your f-ing dog assaulting us on our walks all the f-ing time!"
I know, attractive, right? Ben has a lower tolerance for this stuff than I do.
But that dog has literally come within inches of him and Ella when they've been bike riding.

So...now we can check air horns off the list as things that work to ward off dogs.

Coop,
where did you get your walking stick that you use to walk Orson with? What does it look like?

ETA: How did Ella react while the dog was rushing us? She didn't even pay attention to the dog. She was walking forward, away from the dog. She was on a walkie, and she wanted to continue walking.

I don't understand why you should muzzle your pittie?

Ella was a good girl and deserves a cookie for ignoring that bratty little dog and just continuing on her walkies. In fact she gets two cookies and some tummy rubs!

The owner of the small dog should get a rolled up newspaper right to the snout WHACK with a firm reminder to keep her dog on a leash!

Seriously though you have every right to be frustrated.

I am sorry you have to deal with that kind of bs.

I also think that in this case Ben's use of the 'f-bomb' was warranted.

Well, the muzzle comment was because often when I make a rant about off leash dogs, I get the occasional troll or the occasional "train your dog better" person who comes into my thread and tells me to muzzle my dog.
hahahaha. I was just telling people ahead of time, that my wish is not for it to turn into one of those threads.

First off, kisses to Ella for being such a good girl!!

Secondly, I think you had every right to go off on that neighbor. Sounds like she has been warned before and really, in the end, if she values her dogs life its a lesson she really needs to get through her thick head.....by whatever means necessary.

I get that all the time around my apartment complex. It's not such a big deal with Joey, but when Roxie the min pin was here, she had some deep seated hatred for the fluffy mop dogs for some reason. If I heard one more time "But my dog is friendly" I was going to scream. From the looks and sounds of the little tazmanian devil I had on the end of the leash it was pretty obvious that my dog wasn't. Some people are just morons.

And Becca, I will run down and snap a picture, LOL, I have two different ones..........one is a "home made" job, and the other is a wooden cane (it's straight) that I picked up at one of the dollar stores for a BUCK!

Be right back :)

i hear ya. to be honest, a phone call to the non-emergency police number might not be out of line at this point. maybe they'd actually do something.

thanks, guys. It's just frustrating that this dog lacks, obviously, an owner that has HER best interests at heart, and that fact ALSO effects others.

Thanks, Coop!

That lady has it coming. That would just IRK me too. I can't stand people like that lady. Its almost like that lady wants something to happen to her dog so she can sue or something.

People that care about their dog go and get their dog. People that care about other people go and get their dog and apologize. People that don't like their dog much yell the crap at their dog. This lady taking NO action and watching tell me she was hoping something would happen. I seriously say this lady is a law suit waiting to happen. Call AC and the cops on her.

Oh yeah get all the documentation and keep it when you call them and they come out so you have proof that the cops or AC was called.

I'm sorry. I understand sometimes "**** happens" and your dog gets out of the yard or whatever, but I don't understand people who KNOW they're doing something wrong, have been warned, and STILL do not care! I would hit that lady with the stick!!!!

Honestly, is there anything you can do? The dog is on her property. Has the dog bit anyone?

:(

It's sad, but I have the same problem. Except the dog has never bit anyone or lundged at them. But it has barked at me and my dog and my dog DOES NOT like that dog, so it makes for an unpleasent walk. :(

This is the one I got at the bargain bin........I don't remember which dollar place it was, but it was only a dollar!

And this is the one that Kevin made for me. It used to be my mop handle. It's a metal one and I wrapped black electrical tape around it to make it more festive looking and NOTICEABLE ;) It's really my favorite of the two, it's strong and very light weight.

The dog WASN'T on her property. That's the thing. If a dog is on its property and barks at us, whatever. My dog can get over it.
But if a dog leaves its property to chase at us, and the owner stands there and watches, then that become THEIR problem.

Becca that just sucks.

Tehre is one small dog around here that has no fear and obvisouly a death wish. Buster can ignore it while it is barking while we're walking past but the other day it ran straight up to him, and just stood there staringo nly inches from him while he's trying to eat it... take the hint dawgy!
First time I saw the owner out with it aswell, I yelled to her to get her dog, look over. She's still bent over in her garden, calling the dog to no avail. Eventually she walks over to it to get it saying "good boy... good boy..." to Buster.
I was fuming at that point, for a start, I just want her to hurry up, and I sure as hell don't want someone cooing over him or prasinghim for hanging off the end of his leash waiting for this dog to step wihtin striking distance.

No amount of stamping or yelling got anymore than a slight glance from this dog. Funny how most of the large dogs that approach me back off quick smart with a "get home!" growled at them.

I have had them do that as well...........they see their little dog running right at us and they don't make a move to do ANYTHING about it until they see me brandish my stick. THAT gets them moving, and sometimes gets a few F-bombs out of them! :rofl1:

You have every right to pepperspray the dog as well....Just food for thought, it may not be an option you like, but if it saves the little dog and saves your girl the stress and keeps them both safe....then go for it, if the owner has a problem and calls the police, then just say what happened, and say you were defending YOUR dog and YOURSELF

Well at least that is what i would do here!

Sorry this is happening!

Did the lady say anything? Maybe she will get the drift.

I had a small air horn months ago. It was laud but not THAT loud. I decided to go bigger. The can itself is larger than a soda can, and it can blow your eardrums right out. I am sure it would make the dog take off running for its life in the opposite direction, but it would also have woke up every neighbor. lol.

Pepper spray worries me, because the wind can be a huge factor.

I've actually thought about getting a cattle prod.

That is how serious loose dogs are in my area. Even aggressive dogs run round loose.

Have you tried a squirt gun on this dog? If plain water doesn't work, maybe you could try salt water?
Just a thought... I'm sorry this keeps happening to you :(

plus if you got too nervous or a fight broke out you might just spray yourself or your dog. like the woman in the obedience class I was watching today. Her Collie was barking and the woman was uptight, the trainer gave her citronella spray and the woman went to spray the dogs, and sprayed it RIGHT into her own eyes, I thought it was funny because I don't like spraying dogs in the face with stuff, now she knows how it feels.

I'm really glad Ella didn't react, what a good girl! People can be so stupid, it's like she wants something to happen so she can get you and Ella in trouble.

Thanks for posting those pictures, coop!
That's a good idea for one of my old mop handles!

I've carried spray, the only thing is, in order for the spray to even get close enough to the other dog to matter, the dog has to be only inches from you. I don't want an off leash dog getting THAT close to us.

Reggin, my airhorn is bigger than a pop can and it can blow LOUDLY. It just didn't work.

I think I shall try a stick. :D
Thanks, guys.
