So I went to Walmart today to get a couple of enclosed litter boxes. I got two enclosed ones that were 14 dollars, and a larger one that wasn't enclosed but had high sides to keep litter in the box that was 6 dollars. My friend tagged along, so i wasn't really paying attention to the cashier..She told me the total, I swiped the ATM card and walked out the door.I loaded them in the backseat and got in the car. When I got in the car I noticed she only charged me for ONE of the three litter boxes. I had them stacked, but I honestly didn't think anyone would not notice the stack of litter boxes and only scan one. I didn't go back in the store. Would you have gone back in the store once you had already got in your car and was ready to leave? If I would have noticed when I was checking out I would have said something. But I really didn't feel like going back in the store so that I could pay for the other two. Is that extremely dishonest?

What did I get out of this situation? Two free litter boxes..lol

Well, I know that Kharma's a B----, so I'm afraid if I didn't it would come around and bite me in the butt. My cats would probably start peeing on my bed or something if I tried to get away with that, lol.

I wouldn't have gone back into the store. Honestly.
I can deff. tell when 2 cat boxes are stacked together, maybe they should too. LOL
Maybe I'm a b1tch or whatever but I think the cashiers should pay more attention.

My friend said maybe that person was new, and also didn't have animals and didn't know what cat boxes were supposed to look like! lol. Maybe she thought those were all pieces too it.

Maybe the cashier just didn't care? She was working for walmart after all. Sometimes I go to an awesome grocery discount place. One time the cashier was mad at her boss, she was like, "okay, you're getting 50% off all of this because I feel like it....and this bag is free. Have a nice day and don't tell my boss!" rofl. She is an awesome lady though.

Nah, I wouldn't have gone back.

I'm pretty sure I've done the same in the past when I've worked in shops - I say what goes around, comes around ;)

I wouldn't have gone back into the store after leaving. but I always say something if I notice when they are doing it or notice that the total seems low.

I don't think it's dishonest.

I think dishonest is walking up to the till hoping they miss things.

I think walking out the shop, then realising their mistake is too bad for them. I would probably briefly feel guilty if I realised before I left the car park, but once I got in my car and drove off I would probably remind myself about the cost of living these days, and be thankful.

Maybe getting something for free is good karma?

If I am IN a shop and I notice the mistake, I point it out. But otherwise, nah.... The cashier has lost nothing. The business really won't have lost anything either on 2 plastic litter trays - not exactly going to make them go bust.

Yes I would have (and have) gone back in to make it right. I generally watch them ring everything up pretty closely to be sure they are giving me the sale prices and not ringing up double on things, I am neurotic that way, LOL

The question you need to ask yourself is, would you have gone back in if they had CHARGED you for TWO if you had only gotten one??

That's where the "do unto others" comes in ;)

I would go back and have many times. I think it all depends on your conscience, personally my conscience would bug me if I didn't go back. It has nothing to do with the stores loss or the cashiers absent minded moment but more the fact that once I'm home I would feel terribly guilty if I didn't go back and pay for what I just purchased.

It's never happened to me but whether I took it back and told them would really depend on where the shop was and how far away it was. As I very rarely go into town or shopping and wouldn't want to go back in especially as I hate shopping.

I don't think I would have gone back either. If I notice this... and I buy xyz at a small mom and pop store- yeah, I usually go back. Or if I notice that the cashier gave me way too much change back. I don't want anyone to get into trouble.

But if an honest mistake was made at a large concern like Walmart- no, I wouldn't have gone back.

If I had noticed it while still in the store, or parking lot, I would have gone back and told them about it. But if I had already left and noticed it at home, I wouldn't have gone back.

A similar thing happened to me at Goodwill! I was getting a bunch of clothes, and it was already their half off sale day. The guy at the register told me he was only going to charge me for one of the shirts and just give me the rest. :yikes:

my only worry in going back would be getting the clerk in trouble but then again the store would want to know. I am really bad about not noticing things when they are wrung up right or wrong. Most of the time i am so tired i have no idea even if i have the right change or not.

I'd also remind folks that the high prices of goods are in part due to employee errors or deliberate discounting things they have no right to discount. As a former retail employee I can tell ya shrinkage is a real problem...and it WILL be reflected in the prices you pay, eventually.
