that's in the rescue forum, because i can't see putting a perfectly good dog to sleep just because he's old. Not a thing wrong with the dog - he's just old.

Now... what do I do with him???

I took him to visit a potential adopter today, she decided she didn't have enough time for a dog. Another person who was interested never called me back.

So I'm at odds here, because I don't have the room to keep an intact male dog, nor the funds to neuter him. He's a perfectly nice dog, though I suspect his previous owners did not pay any attention to him at all as he does not seek out nor respond to human attention much... he might have been a mostly outdoor dog. He is underweight. Like I said, though, he is intact, and I live in fear of him urinating all over my house, though he does seem to be housebroken. He's good with my dogs, rather indifferent to it all. He'd be a good dog for someone wanting a companion that doesn't demand much out of them.

i sent emails to a couple local area rescues but i don't expect much there. He just doesn't mesh with my household enough that i could continue to care for him while searching for a forever home, unless that forever home comes up in the next few days.

sigh
suggestions?

You "rescued" him, but are looking to rehome him? Which is it? What do you do now? Give the dog the attention it deserves! Why did you bother to rescue him if you dont have the room nor funds for an intact dog?

Dont mean to come across mean, just sad. I feel bad for the dog-home to home.....

Shame.

well, as i didnt know he was intact when i adopted him as he lay curled in a puddle of his own urine, i suppose i should have reached down and checked.,.

i rescued him so he wouldn't be euthanized - quite a common occurence, actually, particularly with rescue groups. You're right - I should have just let him die.

I actually figured he didn't seek affection because I thought his past owners ignored him, which is part of what I posted.

Never mind, I was trying to do a nice thing for a dog, I see now that was all wrong. At least on here, anyway. I will seek advice elsewhere.

actually I got a call from the second person who was interested, taking the dog to meet him now.

I think Suzzie means she rescued him from impending euthanasia at a kill shelter?

Try posting him on Dogster and Petfinder, maybe?
yep, that is exactly what i did. They were going to kill him because it's easier to adopt out younger dogs, and nobody was interested in him. :(

First off, Mach, you need to can it. "Rescuing" doesn't mean "adopting". She took the dog from a situation where he was going to die, just because he's a senior dog.

Suzzie, just keep trying. You won't get results overnight. Post on CL, though you may want to carefully screen potential adopters that way. Keep checking rescues, make calls to humane societies... you know the deal.

That is all I know to tell you.

Good luck!!!

Hold yer horses right there!

I just rescued a dog as well and I have no intention of keeping her as a permanent resident. I rescued her because *gasp* I thought she deserved a chance at life, so I am going to FOSTER her (is this a new concept for you??? or are you only stuck to your own breeding principles?) and wait for the absolute best home for her.

Shame on you for being so **** judgmental.

P.S. A dog that was going to die THAT day, mind you. So I saved her. What have YOU done for the greater good of the dog world lately?

Don't be upset by what a few people said (in fact Kayota I'm sure did not mean to be negative, probably defensive due to her dog's living situation), I think it is great you rescued him I hate when old dogs get put down just for being old :( your a foster for him, people do it all the time, it's good for dogs to live in a house before going to new homes, it makes them more adoptable. Try posting on Craig's List or petfinder but be sure to heavily scan the potential adopters.

I have the same suggestions...other then to add our vet. office posts dogs available--sometimes they know of someone who has lost a loved one, and may be looking for another. Just an idea. Good luck.

Ummmmmmmmm, yes in fact I HAVE rescued MANY DOGS that are dropped off in my area and re home them. The OP states that she RESCUED AND also states that she has adopted.

NOT familiar with the entire situation-I am allowed to post MY OPINION on what she originally posted-which was

i can't see putting a perfectly good dog to sleep just because he's old. Not a thing wrong with the dog - he's just old.

DONT tell me to can it. Dont tell me that I DONT do anything for the animal world-because if you only knew what I have to do here because of ignorant people that ADOPT dogs and get rid of them all the time. I have to shoot stray dogs and dog packs, I have to rehome dogs, I have 7 DOGS because I rescue(4 are mine 3 are rescue), but I **** sure keep theones that I adopt!I also have farm animals that I rescue-

The OP seriously should have taken into consideration that the "rescued" dog may be hanging around for awhile before it finds a forever home, and if that meant passing up a dog that is intact then so be it, because that to ME is not an excuse-or at least ahouldnt be.

Do you have no tact? Couth? Manners?

She rescued him from a shelter. She is looking for his forever home. Stuff it.

ETA. I see by your last post that you obviously have no home training, and need to go back to grammar school to master the English language. My bad.

Thank you, Suzzie, for rescuing him and doing the right thing. He'll be much better off staying in your home than a shelter in his own urine waiting to die. I hope you find someone that wants to give him his forever home :)

Sucks though, that he is indifferent to human contact...it must have been a not so happy life. My best friend adopted a 10 year old Dachshund that was kept outside her entire life, so at first she was the same. The last year of her life, her hair grew back, she learned how to play, and finally got to experience the warm snuggle of a comforter. It was probably the best year of her shortened life.

I'm going to ditto this.

Ummmmmmmmm, yes in fact I HAVE rescued MANY DOGS that are dropped off in my area and re home them. The OP states that she RESCUED AND also states that she has adopted Yes. She ADOPTED a dog who was about to be KILLED at the shelter. She rescued him. As long as it's not against the adoption contract, she's going to rehome him. What part don't you comprehend? The dog has still been RESCUED from death and will be adopted to a forever home.

DONT tell me to can it. Dont tell me that I DONT do anything for the animal world-because if you only knew what I have to do here because of ignorant people that ADOPT dogs and get rid of them all the time. What about all those ignorant asshats who breed their dogs-- oh WAIT, you're one of those. So people like thagt wouldn't be much of a worry for ya.l I have to shoot stray dogs and dog packs, I have to rehome dogs, I have 7 DOGS because I rescue(4 are mine 3 are rescue) By my count that would be three rescues. And what, three that you bred. Perhaps I count wrong., but I **** sure keep theones that I adopt!I also have farm animals that I rescue-
Oh, and Match? I have pretty D@MN good idea of all the "good" you do for the animal world. I was sharing your old threads with a few people in chat today, so trust me, I'm not the only one on this forum who's got your number - and it's very clear what kind of animal person you are.
