We were peer pressured into entering a local UFO Disc Dog Competition this weekend. Now keep in mind that we have only dabbled in disc for funsies and I never had any intention of competing. We entered both novice Freestyle and Toss & Catch and won both classes. There were only 3 novice dogs entered in T&C and only us entered in freestyle, so that helped a bit. ;) However, we were told that next time we HAVE to enter at the Pro level instead of Novice because she is not a novice dog. :D

Here's a crappy cell-phone video. Now keep in mind that I put high reward on bringing discs back to me, which is a big mistake in free-style even though it is ideal in T&C. So we need to work on dropping the disc the FIRST time I ask, not running back to me and ramming me in the stomach when I refuse to grab it from her. Also, we need like a bajillion more tricks!

Awesome job! I have no idea about frisbee scoring or competitions but it looks like fun!
Oh I had no clue at the beginning of this day either. LOL

UFO Freestyle is judged on uniqueness of the tricks and style. Catch ratios are only used in the event of a tie-breaker. I thought that sucked a little, but that's because I have a dog that catches everything.

Toss & Catch is a bit different and pretty much made for Zuma. The handler stands behind a line and is allowed one disc. You throw the disc and are given points for any catches made in the point areas. The further the throw, the higher the points. You get an extra half point for any catches where all for feet of the dog's are off the ground. You get an extra point if the catch is made in the bonus point half-circle. The highest point catch possible is 5.5 points. You only have 1 minute. We scored 7.5 points in our one minute.

It was so much fun!

I want a true frisbee dog sooo bad! If only I can teach Jackson how to actually catch them from the air, we could do it, LOL. But Zuma did amazing! I love dog frisbee and watching them have fun.

That's awesome! Sounds like you guys had a great time. Frisbee dogs are so much fun. I'd never be brave enough for competition, though.

Is it sad that I knew all about the Toss and Catch scoring from playing Nintendogs? XD

Looks like so much fun! I want a dog that'll catch a frisbee...

She looks great! I went and watched my first competition this weekend to support a friend who was competing for the first time. It looked like so much fun! I'm itching to give it a whirl, although Gusto uses his feet to knock the frisbees out of the air. I'm not sure they'd be impressed.

Ozzy would rock toss and catch! That's awesome! How do you think a da Dr dog would do at a competition?

There was one DA dog competing, she just had a long line on him. There is only one dog on the field at a time, but the crates/tents were right up to the edge of the field. Also, there are always spectators that have their pet dogs on the edges of the field, so that's something to be aware of.

I think as long as no ones allowing loose dogs he'd be fine. He just gets reactive/aggressive with dogs in his face.
