How could anyone NOT love Zorak? How long do they usually live....the girls I mean, it seems you've answered the question as far as the boys are concerned.
I almost bought one for Jordon years ago but my husband at the time was too freaked out.....no wonder I punted him..big baby.
I'd love a mantis! Zorak is very cool...

"The mantis is an auditory Cyclops" THAT is an insult worthy of Oscar Wilde LOL...
"I say old chap...are you not a bit of an auditory Cyclops?"

dr...by all accounts she should already be gone..one year is what they usually get. Spring to Fall....Zorak is hanging in there tho!
:( That's a short love affair. Maybe she's an alien mantis....:yikes: Do they like misting? I notice water dropplets on her....pretty.:)

yes that's how I give her water. The can drink from bowls but they don't always remember to...the misting she cleans the droplets off and drinks immediately usually.

She is so easy to care for once you get over the live prey issue. I will miss her when she's gone. She's made 4 egg sacs so far in her time with us...none seem fertile or they're waiting til Spring. :)

Zorak is just awesome... what a neat insect! I need to get an egg sac next summer, it's so much fun watching them march around!

as pets they can live 18-24 months sometimes...

but shes a smaller species (its 6 abdominal sections for females, 8 for males and males are SMALLER than females...)
shes a pretty little mantid, have you ever seen the chinese mantis? we have them here in ct more than the other types, the females grow 6-8 inches!

bugs! grasshoppers...butterflys...moths....the occasional mealworm....the occasional lizard. Butterflies are probably her favorite, along with the lizards. In a pinch she'll take store bought crickets.

heck no! My kid does it. She can catch like 4-5 grasshoppers and couple butterflies outside with her net in about 20 mins usually. She's an excellent huntress! Come winter when those are gone it'll be mealy's and crickets!
