Hubby and I are in our late 50's. We are thinking of a couple puppies. Thinking if we get 2 so they will have a playmate. We live in a house with a large yard. Both of us are retired so home most of the time, although we do like to travel. We would like a breed that is small when full grown. 8-9 lbs not bad for someone with dog allergy (me). Have had mal shih, and shih tzu's in the past and no problem with allergies.
However, our mal shih was a barker. She barked at everyone and everything that went past our house. We tried everything suggested by our vet and others but nothing worked. She seemed to think she needed to protect our home from everyone and everything. So we really would like a dog that doesn't have a tendency to bark alot.
Also and very importantly we have grandchildren. The oldest is 6 down to 2 with a baby on the way. Need a dog that will not bite!!! (daughter also had a mal shih) that bit and needed to find a new home.
A few breeds we are considering are shorkies, morkies, mal shih, yorkiepoo, and shi poo. No idea what the difference in them is.

Any advice will be appreciated!!!!

you don't want a puppy, you want a dog. Go see them and you'll find one that isn't a barker and doesn't bite. Get a puppy and they can turn into anything as adults. Get an adult and you see what its traits are.

Yeah you don't know what a puppy is going to turn out like. A mixed breed puppy is even less predictable in temperament, allergen-production etc. Additionally, I don't think getting two puppies is a good idea. It takes enough time and effort training and socializing one.

I'd also recommend spending the time finding a full-grown dog that's well-behaved, tried and true with kids and that doesn't make your allergies act up.
