I was wondering, since there are quite a few raw feeders on the board. What kind of raw model do you follow? Do you feed veggies or grains? Why or why not?

I just started raw. I feed each dog some raw meat with bone once a day, 6 days a week. Right now it's chicken quarters (with some backbone meat attatched), and occassionally some meaty beef soup bones. I hope to do more variety once I'm sure they're used to it.

For one meal a week, I've made a cooked brew. It's about 65% assorted veggies (carrots, peas, spinach and yellow squash this week), and the rest includes ground chicken livers, gizzards and hearts, and eggs. I mix it with about 1 cup of rice for each dog.

I do it this way because I wanted to give my boys veggies, but I think that the 40% recommended by one raw model was rather excessive. And cooking makes it digestible for dogs. I put the rice in because, although people are still debating whether it does any good, I figure it does no harm.

I used to feed veggies a few times a week. I cooked them, blended them and mixed apple cider vinager and some other things with it. I stopped because all it seemed to do was give them terrible gas, and increased the size of the poop coming out. I started out with none, went to feeding veggies and now I rarely do. I think the only reason I do now, is mentally I think veggies are good for "us". so I guilt myself in to doing it sometimes, but really when I can see blended carrots and beans and peas in their crap outside I wonder just how much is really being used?

I don't do the rice thing either, just didn't seemed to be used all that much. They just seemed to poop more often and bigger piles. I'm starting to sound like I enjoy dog crap too much so I'm going to end it that discussion soon. but they can digest meat sources really easily and carb digestion is very very inefficient.

I dont feed any grains or rice...My guys just get their mix of kibble and raw meat every day and then a few times a week I give them a whole raw carrot to crunch as a time-passer treat and it also does *some* teeth cleaning (though due to the bones they get, its not really needed anyways)

I feed primarily meat use to throw veggies in 1x weekly after running them through the juice and adding it back together with broth made from the chicken skins I would boil down and skim the fat from. The juicer gave up the ghost I never replaced it and now we dont do veggies but would like to add them in again. The dogs seemed to enjoy them. The meats I feed vary chicken 1/4,necks,backs occasionally frames, turkey wings, necks, occasionally backs or frames, beef pork, venison when I can get it tried ostrich and rabbit but 2/3's of the gang didnt like either. Organ meats beef kidney, liver, heart chicken and/or turkey hearts and gizzards. Have done Trachea they loved it but hard to get ahold of sometimes

I use the prey model, basically just envisioning how much meat, bone and organ meat is in an animal (I figure about 45% bone [not all edible with the larger prey] 45% meat and 10% organs). As I've modified things to suit my dogs I think I wind up feeding about 20% edible bone, 70% muscle meat and between 5 and 10% organs. Since I still feed Innova EVO on occasion (primarily poultry) I don't give them a ton of chicken for their muscle meats - though they do get mainly chicken bones.

I don't bother with veggies. I planted some grass in a planter for the dogs to nibble on if they want vegetation, and periodically i offer them a raw carrot to munch. They get green tripe when i can find it.

I'm still figuring out exactly what will work for my dogs so if I overdo something and give them an upset stomach, I'll give them a little bit of rice with some boiled chicken and a bit of pumpkin to settle things down. I don't bother with it otherwise, they don't seem to get much out of it.

No veggies here either, I do a variety of meats and meaty bones. They can eat the grass outside if they want some greens. It needs to be cut anyway. :)

I dont do much vegies or grains except occasionally in green tripe form. (in my opinion the only vegies/grains canines would get would be those already partially pre-digested in the stomachs of their prey)

so my "plan" is to do primarily a mix of raw meaty bones, chicken, beef, turkey and pork are easiest to get, then occasionaly deer and rabbit during hunting season if i can find a hunter with extras :) (im an oportunist lol)
about 5% on the organs, and occasionally, when i can find it, green tripe.

and because they seem to enjoy them, a raw carrot each once in a while simply because i have carrots handy and they enjoy them as a safe crunchy snack.

i do like the benefits of apple cider vinigar though, and if someones having a gassy day ill add some parsley, and if someones having a runny poop day, baked sweet potatoe.

im hoping to switch the chihuahuas over to raw as i do the dane...but last time i tried they just wouldnt have any of it lol. they do however like their raw chicken wings, so i guess theres hope lol.

Mainly meat and bones here. They get table leftovers for veggies. They do get the occasional bit of pasta or rice this way, but only incidental amounts. Puppies, and bitches who are in whelp or lactating get grains, veggies, and more carbs in general, and also more organ meat and dairy.

In general I feed organ meat about once per week, and during the other part of the week I rotate between fresh ground chicken with bone, 30% fat ground beef, and whatever I find interesting in the "sell today" meat bin at the grocery store.

In the AM I feed ground chicken quarters (with bone).
In the PM I feed either beef or pork or hearts, along with an egg and a small amount of liver or kidney.

I also supplement with fish oil, coconut oil, E, C, brewers yeast, and a very small amount of eggshell.

Once or twice a week the dogs get meaty bones to chew on such as beef neck or ribs.
