I was cleaning up the mudroom, and left the door open so the wet floor could dry.. and then stupidly left the door that opens up to the inside of the house open, too. Then I got distracted doing who-knows-what, and closed it before any of the cats got out. I went outside to dump the bucket of water in the yard... and there was Tom.
I yelled at him to come in like I usually do (seriously, he's amazing.. when he gets outside all I have to do is ask him to come in and he races me to the door) and he ignored me for a second, and then galloped up to me... and he had a MOUSE in his mouth that was nearly as large as his head! OMG!
So of course, I try to close the outside door so I can steal his prize from him before he brings it in, but he came in and dropped it at my feet and trotted inside.
The biggest surprise? It was still alive. It scurried out, completely unharmed.
Tom got a biiiiig treat for catching it, though. Club crackers and laughing cow cheese (his favorite) with the EVO kibble he usually isn't allowed to have.
Now I'm certain he used to be an indoor-outdoor cat after this. No eleven year old cat who has never been outside on his own goes and kills a mouse within ten minutes - he had to have learned that somewhere. Meh, but anyways I'm pretty happy for him. I shouldn't be worried about parasites, should I? I washed his face and paws off when he came in.
