I'm wondering about the quality of life for my 4 yr old cat. I have a shih tzu and 2 cats. My dog is 2 and is great. My oldest cat is almost 9 years old this year. My other cat that I'm worried about is 4yrs old. He has spent most of his life on "Kitty Prozac" b/c of inappropriate urination in the house. He is either laying around like a zombie or bouncingo off the side of the walls (at 3am)... I'm trying to wein him off the med's and just started every 3 days today and we'll he might as well be skating on my head b/c he's going so fast..

I caught him spraying on the couch over a week ago. Litterally right next to me while I was relaxing with him.

What is the likelyhood of my cat ever being normal and not doing this such as this for his future since he's been doing this at an early age?

PS. He's an indoor animal b/c I honestly think he's too slow to handle the outdoors... I've never had an outdoor animal.

1. Is he neutered?

2. Has he been checked for other medical problems by your vet?

3. Have you thoroughly cleaned all areas where he's sprayed with an enzymatic cleaner?

As far as your CAT'S quality of life, I'm sure he's fine. With the spraying and bouncing off the walls I'm more worried about yours.. spraying is marking behavior, and completely different from urination, although cats will inappropriately urinate on things sometimes, too.

You might want to see a behaviorist as well. Without seeing the cat, I can't begin to guess what is wrong with him (though withdrawal might be part of the problem) but it sounds like he has some underlying problem. He's probably happy enough, but YOU sound unhappy!

Yes I am unhappy b/c I don't want this to be happening. I have slept with this cat for 4years! I love him... I can't even think of the idea of someone else having him and not trying to care for his issues. He is neutered and has been since he was 4-6months old. He's always been a little "wild/skittish" but friendly and sweet. He loves to headbutt you and snuggle on your lap while at the computer, etc. That's why this is so hard.

He has been doing the inappropriate urination before I started taking him off his meds, so this is not new...

Now on the other hand I took my 9 year old cat to the vet this am b/c he throws up all over the house on a daily basis. Soooo he's down to 7.5lbs and is an alaskian snowshoe. His docs are very worried about his weight decrease. He keeps going down every time we go. His blood work has been normal, ultrasound normal, xray normal. But he sneezes like he has cronic rhinonitis and throws up on a daily basis and is loosing weight. Doctors are discussing possible Lymphomia or Imflammatory Bowel Disease...

I can't catch a break.

As for throwing up, when we were feeding our cats a crappy food (meow mix) they would throw up often..since cats are carnivores and can't digest corn..the first ingredient of crap foods), as soon as we switched to a higher quality food, the vomiting stopped.

What kind of food is he fed?

I just switched my cats to Wellness from the prescription ID... It seems like it doesn't matter what type of food it still happens.

The cat that's throwing up could have some medical issue making him ReALLY hungry and he could be gobbling too much at once. Our cat did that; he had hyperthyroidism.
