Do anyone of you who have large dogs feed your dogs off a raised platform, or should I say place the bowls of a raised platform?

We have never done this, and touch wood, none of our dogs got wobblers. If you do, what platform do you use, could you please post pics of it. Out of curiosity, did any of your dogs get wobblers and if so, at what age and breed?

Many thanks

Hi,
On another forum I am on a member has an almost 3 year old Doberman Pincher who was just diagnosed with this disease :( I guess there are different levels of it and can be treated depending on the severity. I have never had a dog with it and honestly never heard of it until recent. How old is your dog and what kind of breed? I guess it is more common in the dobes and larger breeds, great danes etc. Good luck to you!

Never had a problem with it with any of the dogs I''ve worked with and none were fed off a raised platform. Well some of the behavioural clients could''ve been...

I feed my Doberman on the floor, not raised, as there is some evidence to suggest that bloat is more prevelent in dogs who eat their food from raised bowls. And Dobermans are prone to bloat. Wobblers is genetic and not caused by the position of the food bowl. If my dog did have that, I would probably do whatever made him more comfortable, perhaps slightly raised.

I thought it was the other way around?

Buddy has a raised feeder... now, I'm worried.

Here, check out this site. I feed my Doberman two meals and even those, he doesn't often eat all at once. I don't make him wait all day if he doesn't want to eat first thing in the morning like the other dogs. I let him tell me when he's hungry so he won't gulp too fast....which he hardly ever does anyhow. You know what I mean....those people who say that if the dog won't eat when you give it to him, give him 10 minutes and put it away all the way till dinner time. Well, Lyric will often signal to me that he's hungry. I don't believe in all this nonsense about a dog becoming dominant if I do anything he wants. LOL. So, he signals. I answer and give him his food. He is the sweetest, most compliant and sensative dog. There's no reason to make him wait all day if he gets hungry mid way through. So, in other words, smaller meals a few times a day, prevent the dog from being famished so he won't gulp it.

anyhow....here's an informative site:

You can do a search on Google. Just type in something like that...raised food bowls for dogs. Or bloat in dogs and raised food bowls.
