Wired-Hair Terrier? (pics)

We adopted a "wired hair terrier" from a kill shelter 2 months ago. He's a darling boy but we have no idea what breed he is. All the adoption papers say is that he is a "wired-hair terrier. Whenever I try to look up information on wired-hair terriers on search engines, I get results for wired-hair fox terriers. I know he isn't a fox terrier. I have no idea if he's a mixed breed or a purebred. Are there any other types of terriers that have the wire hair besides the fox terrier?

to me he looks a little like a norwich terrier?? X Jack russel. I do see a lot of Jack in him, especially the ears, but might just be me I'm not real up on my terriers.

The "wire haired terrier" label from the shelter is actually just a descriptive term, it doesn't really have much to do with breed.

Fox terriers for example come as smooth and wirehaired, Jack Russell Terriers (or Parson Russell Terriers, as labeled by the AKC now) come in smooth, broken and wire coats.

After looking at the pic of your little cute, my guess is it's a JRT/PRT mix or maybe even a purebred one. I'd have to see more pics though.

SummerRiot, I was thinking that too - my dog's coat looks similar when it isn't stripped.

Isn't there a wire haired JRT? I'd swear I'd heard of something along those lines. Definitely has a JRT face, ears, coloring and legs. The body looks a little thin, but he may be young or have another breed mixed in.

many designer breeders and BYB' breed borders too JRT, when looking for harley atleast every 4th ad was a border terrier cross JRT they are extremely common,

I never thought he was a Jack Russell but now that I've read up on on the breed it's clear that he does have some Jack in him.

He's a hunter, (Lord help the rabbits), and a climber.

We still need to fatten him up a bit. He was underweight when we got him and I can still feel his ribs when I give him a good bellyrub.
