So my uncle came to visit earlier. Yeah out in this snow storm  but he has a Hummer so I guess he can go anywhere he wants. Anyways he and I don't see eye to eye on ANYTHING he hates that I have an opinion that im not afraid to share with him. Unlike the rest of the family...Lol really he hates how much I remind him of my dad.

Anyways while he was here visiting Maggie May was keeping her distance. And he would not leave her be. It was a constant "Come here girl, Oh come here im nice, Oh your just way too shy airn't you?". And of course doofy Tucker was bouncing all around him being is normal sweet self. So we started talking about the dogs and dog breeds.

He recently "gave away" his Boxer Duke because he shed white hair all over his expensive furniture and drooled . He also gave us his white persian cat. Anyways he was just talking about he is not a pet person because they airn't like furniture they require time. But some day he may try again with a poodle because they don't shed.......yeah

My mom gave me "the don't even start" look because he and I have had some heated arguments over how he treats his animals. So I just said I would always have atleast one dog and would always have a American Cocker Spaniel. And he just kind of smirked and then goes "Why would you want anouther Cocker Spaniel" he then looked Maggies way. And then went on about how they have such emotional personalities, are stupid, and have too many health problems for anyone to really enjoy them. He actually went as far as to say they are one of the lowest breeds on the smarts level .

I swear I am so sick of hearing people put down my dogs breed. I will admit Maggie is not the most emotionally stable dog in the world. But its not because she's a Cocker Spaniel. Its because she had such a abusive and neglectful start to life. Which I beleive any breed would have the problems she has if brought up the way she was before we got her. Needless to say I went off on him. And he starts to laugh and goes "Well no wonder you like such a emotionally mixed up breed look at you!". I would have loved to have punched him in the face honestly.

I don't care how many people dislike my breed. I love them and anyone who has a problem with that can walk off a cliff for all I care :D,

Aww I dig hun. The number of people who tell me cockers are evil, eat children.. pee everywhere. Cider's not a great example of a cocker, but I love her. tell your uncle that she says her three titles so far make her smart :) I can foresee being stuck on cockers.. Now that I have a well bred one too, I'm stuck pretty hard. I'd like a big dog.. but I like my cocker kids.

You get it no matter the breed of dog you own. Let the idiots be idiots. They aren't worth talking to.

Can I punch him for you?

Oh, and maybe I should introduce him to Kharma . . . and you can tell him that's your NEXT breed of choice. That they are wonderful anti-asshole dogs :D

Yeah, you really do get it with any breed. I've had people ask why on earth I'd want more border collies because I'm not athletic like they are.

Feck 'em! We love the dogs we do because of the connection we have with them, and you can't expect jerks to understand that.

I know it comes with every breed. But I have never had it more often than I have with the Cocker Spaniels. I can't take her out in public with out hearing all sorts of lovely comments about how crappy my breed is. Won't stop me from having them though. Of course im getting my Clumber in a year also.

Lol Renee I may have to borrow Kharma ;)

Unfortunately the more well known/popular the breed is, the more people have misconceptions about it. Heck, not that many people here know what border collies are and I can only imagine what the people with Pit Bulls go through!

Who on earth would change their breed just because of someone else's opinion, though? LOL. Sometimes when people say they can't stand Border Collies I respond with "you can't? Oh, god, I guess I have to get rid of mine now."

LOL Pixie. Try having a pit bull ;)

At one point, not too long ago, I was looking at a cocker spaniel breeder who breeds really nice field/sport dogs (we had a cocker when I was a kid, and he was a pretty nice dog). I mentioned them in front of my boss at the vet hospital where I work, and she told me she'd fire me if I got a cocker.
