Why would this puppy pee in her crate?

Darby (9 weeks) pee'd in her crate this morning. She's never done that before, not even at night. She'd been out several times already that morning, including right before she was crated. There wasn't water in the crate either. I went to get her after about 45 minutes and was horrified to see that she'd pee'd!

Why would she do that? The obvious answer is "becasue she had to" but it seems odd to me that a puppy who'd already pee'd a number of times in the morning and also right before being crated and hadn't eaten in 3 hours would have such an uncontrollable need to urinate in her den.

I called the vet and am running her over this afternoon to see about the possibility that she might have a urinary tract infection or something. Very distressing to think that now the crate isn't even a safe haven anymore.

Not a good day for puppy. :(

If it's not a UTI, maybe she just didn't pee all the way when she last went, or it was a fluke and she just had to go again, and being only 9 weeks old, she doesn't really have all that much control over her bladder yet. >^^;<

Just clean the crate with an enzyme cleaner and try again.

Also, don't be surprised if she temporarily "forgets" how to hold her bladder around 5-6 months. >^^;<

One reason I suspected something like a UTI is that she licks herself quite a lot after she goes. That by itself may just mean she's a neat freak, but add it to the fact that she often squats and produces little or no pee (which of course could be because she goes out every 45 minutes or so) and now a crate-pee? Makes me suspicious.

I have two kids. Seriously, babies are easy compared to puppies.

It's good that you're taking her into the vet. But it may just be she's still a puppy and "forgot" not to go in the crate:p

Back from the vet. Darby showed a slighty high (or was it low?) white cell count which could be indicative of infection. So she gave us a couple of weeks of anitibiotic. The puppy has literally slept all day except when I've roused her to go pee or eat. Not like her at all.
