OK you're all pretty much younger than me and probably don't have to deal with it yet, but if you have... what do you do? They are multiplying and I have relatively dark brown hair and just... ugh. I'm not taking it well. I've been plucking them out but at this rate I'm going to get bald, plus I can't see the ones at the back of my head anyway...

What do I do? Suck it up? Dye it? If I dye, how often do I have to go back for the roots etc? It might arguably be worse than dealing with the white hairs...

But just... ugh. It's one thing to know you're getting older, another to start showing signs of it...

I found my first grey/white at 26yo. >.< They are still mostly hidden in my hair so I'm currently just clipping or plucking the stray visible ones. If the multiply significantly before I'm 40, I'll probably dye them, but after 40, I think I'll let nature take it's course.

I found my first grey on my 18th birthday. Yup. 18th.

I have witch streaks now and I don't really care. This is me, I have greys. It is what it is.

I started dying my hair well before I went grey and haven't seen my natural color for years, so for the most part I remain blissfully ignorant of their existence. My hair is very short, so they don't really show as my roots grow out.

I dye. I don't think I have too many, but I'm not sure as I've dyed my hair a couple of years now. When I get roots I see a couple but not TONS.

I dye mine out of a box!! Just whenever I feel it needs it, maybe every 6 to 8 weeks or longer.

I try and use gentler dyes and it's not damaged my hair at all, and my hair is very fine (but lots of it). I love it when its just done actually, super silky :)

How hard is it? How long does it take? I'm worried I'd miss half my hair doing it myself or something... And how do you pick a color?

If I can do it anyone can!!!

I pick a colour I think will suit me. I have green eyes and pale skin so go for browns, plums, reds. But go for the closest to your natural colour of you're anxious!!

Literally mine is open Box, pour the colour and developer together. Put gloves on and go! I lay towels down just in case, and keep a damp cloth by me to wipe up anything I need to!! You can't miss any hair as it normally lathers up and you just make sure to mix it all in. It's never stained my scalp or anything but I don't buy harsh dyes.

Leave on for 30 mins, rinse. Condition with the stuff they give you. The rinsing is the hardest part lol

It all comes with instructions anyway!!!!

Genetics on both sides of my family are not in my favour. I discovered my first grey hair at 17 or so, and have slowly gained more as I've aged. Now at 30, I have one witch streak on the left side of my part, and silver strands throughout my dark brown hair.

I use henna to colour my hair, but mostly for the health of my hair and because I like the colour, not to cover the greys. Henna does a bad job at covering greys anyway - just makes them bright orange. It does even out the texture though, because like Fran I find my greys to be harsher in texture than my normal hair.

If I chose to stop henna, I would be comfortable with my grey. It is what it is, we all get grey hair at different times in our lives. My cousin Scott, like his dad, had shock-white hair at the age of 20, and dyed it at first but now at 40 is keeping it natural. He gets compliments on it, haha.

This! I used to use box dyes all the time and they're very easy. The hardest part is not staining your skin - a tip is to rub a thin layer of vaseline all around your hairline before you dye, and I also use plastic wrap around my forearms and the gloves because I'm messy. Haha.

around eight months into being pregnant and up until seven or so months out I was finding grey/white hairs left and right and all of a sudden they have stopped. All I can think is that whatever was being sucked out of my body is now being replenished? I have not stopped the prenatal so thats not it. but have not found a single one in about a month so I am blaming it on hormones or vitamins just being depleted.

So anyway maybe a multi vitamin could help?

I don't know, maybe it's because I've been losing weight? I eat balanced food though... probably should have vitamins more often anyway.

I'm worried about the staining with home dye, not gonna lie... What brand do you recommend? I might try...

I use L'Oréal. And I've never stained my skin and I'm not that neat... And I don't use vaseline either!!

Try an ammonia free dye, semi permanent to start.

I'm 25 and I definitely have some grey hairs :( I found my first a few years ago. Both my mom and dad went grey pretty young, so I guess it was bound to happen. Mine still aren't too noticeable, I pluck out the ones that are bothering me, and the rest of my hair is light brown with blonde hairs so I think they kind of blend in for the moment, or maybe there aren't too many yet.

I'll probably dye once they become more noticeable, I really don't want to be grey yet...

It's interesting how the genetics pan out....
My mom's cousins on both sides went totally and completely grey by the time they exited their 20's.
My mother is now 50 and has maybe 1 or 2 greys. (And from what I put her through as a teen I'm surprised she's not totally grey).
At 23 I've yet to see one, but who knows as my hair has been pretty consistently dyed for about 10 years now.

In terms of dye, I've heard L'Oreal is a great one. Especially since they've started adding a pre-treatment to their kit. You just put it in before you start the dying process, it's supposed to protect your hair a bit more from what I understand.
Super easy to use, comes with everything you need - minus the old towels.
I haven't done it myself yet because I've got friends that for some reason jump at the opportunity to "experiment" with my hair....but it seems pretty straightforward.

Then for root touch-ups there's all sorts of at home box systems designed just for that.
