WHINNING AND HOWLING!*please help its really making me mad!!!!*

well just like the topic saids!!!! HE WILL WHIN AND HOWL ALL freaking NIGHT!!!!!!! i just started school.. and when he wakes me up at 3!! in the Fing morning its just really eratating! when we tell him no he usually listens but he WILL NOT listen to me nor my mom and my parents are getting mad to and there thinking of taking him to the pound or just sell him!!!
its really eratating and he dont have him sleep inside cause all he wants to do is go back outside!!!!!!!!! we put him in a crate he HOWLS LIKE FREAKING CRAZY!! just someone help me cause i am really getting mad.

I'm sorry you guys are having such a tough time with him. How old is he? How long have you had him? Maybe try putting a couple of chew toys or rawhide in the crate with him.

I keep Sadie in her crate at night. The crate is right beside my bed and when she was real little and we had just brought her home, I used to stick my hand in the crate and rub her belly, leg or whatever I could reach, and it would calm her down.

Please don't give him any chew toys unsupervised. Soft stuffed animals and a blanket would be great in the crate.

Where is the crate? Bring it closer to your bed so that your dog can see you.

How old is the dog? What breed?

Sorry, I didn't make it clear. I would never give them anything small while unsupervised. Sadie has some larger chew toys that she can barely even fit in her mouth and she mostly rolls it around. Thanks Herschel for pointing that out, I would have felt terrible if the he had choked!

well i had him since he was 8 weeks and hes 4 now! hes a german shepherd chow mix. and i tryed the chew toys and rawhides

It sounds like he is having some anxiety issues. Pull the crate closer to your bed, or put it in your bedroom if it isn't already.

I don't know your situation, or even if you've tried this, but lots of times a good veternarian can recomend things to help out your situation.

Here is what I would suggest:

1) walk him for a long time before you put him to bed. if he's tired, he's more likely to sleep through the night.

2) don't feed him after 7 p.m. food = energy to howl.

3) don't make a big deal when you put him to bed. petting him, or soothing him while he is excited tells him it's ok to bark and how. just ignore him.

4) give him a blankey, a stuffed animal, and a radio that plays softly all night. Make sure the blankey smells like you.

5) if that doesn't work, and if you honestly feel that you are doing everything you can to help him, take him to a vet and have your vet give you a mild night time sedative. I know many dogs this has worked for.

6) Also, for another thought, do your best to keep him on a schedule. Like for example, get him up at 7 a.m. every day for a good run, then a feeding, then he goes in the crate. When you get home at five, repeat those steps. Do this every day.

7) do not let him "win" arguments with you. Dicipline is essential. If you break down and let him out of the kennel when he howls, you are reinforcing his bad behavior. When he screams, and you let him out, he gets his way. This will make him howl and scream any time he wants his way. He knows you are a push over.

4 months old or 4 years? What breed? How long have you been crating him? Do you crate him during the day so he can get used to it? Are you following any training methods or just throwing him in it at night and hoping he'll go to bed?
Wear him out before bed time. Walk him, run him, play with him. Make sure he goes to the bathroom also. If you are not taking him out in the middle of the night (depending on his age) he may be whining cause he needs to go out. Is there any way you can put him in a room with the crate but leave the crate opened? Potty pads on the floor and a room to himself so he can play or amuse himself without causing damage or feeling the need to whine.
