I thought all you great photographers out there could help me out.
I'm really into photography and am looking into it as a career, I have only ever used a digital point and shoot camera, my current one is a Sony Cyber-shot 5.1 mega pixels, its on the old side. It takes good pictures for what its desgined for.
I'm really looking for a good quality camera that will take amazing action shots for dog sports, like agility, dock diving and more. Price isnt a issue, if its what I want but expensive I will save the money for it. Clear crisp photos with good detail are what I'm looking for.

I would really appreciate it if you could give me some ideas of cameras that could be good for me.

Here are a few pix I have taken with my current camera.

Thos arent my fave or anything, just the best ones I have on this computer.

Thank you very much for looking and please leave your suggestions, pictures taken with the camera you reccomend would be amazing :)

Do you want another compact camera or are you interested in getting into the DSLRs?

I'd recommend the Nikon D90 or D300 -if price isn't an issue- or the Canon Rebel XTi.

lol well if price isn't an issue go for the Nikon d3X it's only $9000!!! :rofl1:

Nikon's d90 is a good place to get into it at a reasonable price. But really, you need to go and check out the cameras and see what feels right. If you like where the controls are etc. :) I don't think you either now if you like Nikon or Canon or something else? I'd spend a bit of time at a camera store getting to know them and then come back with questions.

Yep, priced can go WAY up there!! I've done some browsing of DSLRs and they get mighty pricey for their high end machines. ;)

I've had both canon and nikon. Both were the cheaper DSLRS ($500 range). One was a Nikon D40 and the other was a canon EOS digital rebel XT, and I personally like the set-up of the canon. I like where all the controls are and how the menu is set up and such. It all comes down to your own personal preference once you get your hands on one. And then there are the other brands as well, which I dont have much experience with. I tried out a sony alpha over a year ago and it was a pretty neat camera too.

I love my camera, Pentax K20 Flickr: ~Dekka~'s Photostream (for a sample of some pics.. and really I am not very good) But I LOVE the new Pentax K7!! I got to get my hands on it at the photography show in Toronto a few weekends back.

My suggestion is to get a good camera (around 1000-2000 mark) and start from there. Even with only spending 1200 I found I was very hesitant to take it places lol. Don't get ones that will 'do it for' you... you want to learn how to use all the tools they give you.

(ps my camera is for sale :D)

The K-7 looks sweet! I'm hoping I can upgrade from my k10 before my vacation at the end of September. How did you find it felt compared to the k20? I wish I could have made to the photography show in Toronto to see it, but the back-yard chores beckoned.

Cheers,

I loved it.. I went looking for a lens at the toronto show that would make me happy.. turns out the K7 will likely make me happy with what I have or maybe a little more. The focusing is much faster, never seems to 'hunt' in low light. They go on about how much lighter the K7 is.. but I can't say I noticed. It has more bells and whistles but its the focusing speed that got me!

(you really should have came!!! We picked up some sweet deals at the Henry's clearance area.. I got a lowepro camera bag that was 56 dollars for 16. It was 19.99 when I picked it up.. but it got lowered again whilst I waited in line :D. I got some small camera bags, roots, for a buck.... good deals and I found a camera club to join)
