Where'd your love of dogs come from?

I love my dogs, my dogs love me...that's as happy as I'll ever be!
My husband is great, the love of my life...but he's nothing without his dogs and his wife.
We all love each other, we leap and we bound. But God be with us, if one should go to ground.
For then we will cry, we'll weep with sorrow. Wishing we could see them, again, tomorrow.
But if you believe and your love never dies, maybe you'll see them in another's eyes.
Perhaps, better yet...you'll see them...then we'll cry...when you go to ground, are gone and die.

My grandmother loved animals, and the way she lavished emotion and affection on them while being pretty nasty to my mom really turned my mom off pets. My dad just didn't like the mess. But I was the baby and I got first a cat, then a dog, and the dog was so wonderful she really converted everyone in the family. But I was always dog-crazy. Where did it come from? It's a total mystery. We were close to my grandmother, but I don't think it was her influence. I was also horse-crazy, and that was a total mystery as well, since my family's about as rural as a skyscraper. I think some people just come preprogrammed to like animals. I mean, most little kids like animals, but I was the sterotypical 'animal nut' as a child, and it didn't really fade away as I grew up.

^ It's a girl thang.

My dad just loved animals period. I've had cats, dogs, racoons, a sheep, snakes, huge a$$ diving beetles (we found him at a gas station and he lived in our pool for a couple months!), chipmunks, birds (gosh trying to save wild birds is so heartbreaking....RIP Mr. Frisky)

I think I just loved ALL animals and still do, but ever since I got Rox we've just all got some kind of special connection (my bf too). I saw a show on people and dogs and dogs have been companions for people for over 20,000 years!!!!! Maybe time has a bit to do with our love for them as well.

I have allways loved dogs. I dont even know why I started. My mom doesnt like big dogs, (funnyly enough she loves jazz and has met Laya and loved her ;) ) and dad doesnt like dogs in the city. Except Emma and Jazz of couse ;) I waited untill a month before my 20th birthday before I finally got a dog and now I have two, and soon to be three, and soon to be god knows how many. LOL

My dad likes animals, but never had pets growing up. I got it from my mom, who got it from my grandfather.

I think my maternal grandfather was the founder of all things "animal-y" in my family. He absolutely loved animals: not for their usefulness, but for themselves. He kept rabbits and a pigeon house...but never ate them. In his backwater village in the Phillipines, he actually kept a longhorn steer just because he liked the horns. The other villagers used to tease him: "What's the use? You can't even hitch it to a plow!" (the village still used water buffalo)

I'm not at the point where dogs are my life. Maybe it's because I actually spent a good chunk of my life dogless. But I do love my boys to death.

Everyone in my family is/was dog lovers but my mom was the one really instilled in me a love for dogs (and animals). She also taught me empathy and the respect of all life, especially innocent life.

I can remember my grandfather taking in a little pekingese pup who was crippled. He nursed it, loved and somehow managed to get the dog walking. I think that really taught me about the beauty of love and devotion to an animal. Plus, I was raised with dogs. My mom and dad both love them.

Aww these are so cool to read! :)

Dogs (and animals in general) are my life lol. When I start talking to someone about animals, I can go on forever. Maybe I'm weird but I sometimes prefer my pets to humans, I don't know, I guess they're just easier to be with because they don't pass any judgements or anything like that. And I get along a lot better with people who also love animals!
