I buy most of my electronics on Craigslist now. Here are a few tricks if you want to go that route.

1. Most people will post what they want to sell on thursday or friday. Those days more people are willing to contact you just to prepare for a meet up during the weekend.

2. If you want it a little cheaper find an add and contact them Friday late morning or afternoon. A lot of people who are wanting weekend money are pretty desperate to just sell whatever it is they are selling and on something that is $150 or more you can usually convince people to knock off $50-100 if you time it right.

3. When you contact them say something like 'I saw you were asking $250 for it. I live pretty far from where you are located. Would you be willing to knock it down to $150 if I were willing to make the drive?' Most of the time the people I contact will usually drop it down to $200 at that point. After that ask if it has any scratches. If any, even small ones ask for $10-25 off it *especially for electronics that are screen reliant like game handhelds or cell phones* After that ask if they have the receipt and if it is still under warranty. If the answer is no ask to knock off another $10-25. This sounds like a lot but most of them want contact through email or text. So you can ask all those questions at once and then reply with counter offers pretty quickly. I can usually get a price within about 2 back and forth emails.

4. If it's not an emergency and you don't need said item during the weekend wait until Tues or Wed. A lot of people who are wanting cash to make it to pay day will be willing to negotiate to almost crazy prices if you are willing to meet them middle of the week.
