Where should they sleep?

As with anything, I have found 100's of different opinions around bringing up your puppy!

Personally, I want the new addition to sleep in the kitchen, and have read all sorts about how they should sleep in the bedroom and here, there and everywhere!

Thoughts on this? Where would you reccommend?

I think whichever room you want the puppy to sleep in is fine. One of our dogs started out in the kitchen, moved to the living room and is now in our bedroom. Our newest addition started out the same way, but now sleeps in the guest bedroom (rarely have any guests sleeping overnight) and loves it in there.

Sometimes at the beginning when they are very young, it's easier to get them to calm down when they are closer to you, even if it's in the hallway looking into the bedroom.

Hmm, that depends. I personally think it doesn't matter which room the dog sleeps in. Over time, they will get comfortable in it and think of it as "their" room. There's nothing wrong with the kitchen. Zeus is the first dog of mine that actually sleeps in my bedroom. All my other dogs slept in the living room and were just fine with it. My golden retreiver actually preferred it!

When my new puppy arrives, she is going to sleep in my room for the first 3 nights, ive read in a book written by a vet that this is the best thing to do, but only a temporary thing.

Everything is fine honestly. It's just harder the first few nights if the pup isn't in the bedroom with you is all..

I allow my dogs to sleep in their crates in our bedroom for the first couple nights and then they are moved to the kitchen (still in their crates). At around seven months I allow them to sleep back in our room (still in their crates though). Usually around seven months in when mine were consistent with housebreaking so we didn't have to worry about them messing in their crates at night. I want to get rid of the crates though when they hit about a year and let them sleep in our room.

Mine choose where they want to sleep. With puppies I usually have them in the room with me. Pretty much I do it for me lol.

i let my puppy sleeps in his crate in the garage, and he sleeps so well, he doesn't cry or anything like that.

My baby started off in the den, but now he is in the kitchen crated through the night.

She hides under my bed for the 1st week she is home with me even though I prepared a nice corner for her. But after she has been sleeping on my bed and anywhere she chooses to sleep. She just found her fave spot during the day now...on one of the sofas in the living room with lotsa of cushions on it.

Bimmer chose to sleep in my bedroom door where he could watch the front door and hallway from day one - but he never had to be housetrained (he's a good, good boy!) Shiva and Kharma both spent about three weeks sleeping in the laundry room until they learned to be dependable about not going in the house, then Shiva chose to sleep on the living room sofa, and Kharma chose to sleep by the foot of the bed with Bimmer.

Peanut scratches at the side of my bed until I get up and put her on the bed. She sleeps in the bed with me and always manages to choose the exact center of the bed to leave me sleeping in some weird positions.lol

Well, we have her now, and she is starting off sleeping in the kitchen. She is doing really well too! Only been 2 nights, first night she was fine till about 5am, and last night she started crying (well, I say crying it was more like screaming it was that loud!) at about 2am. Went to calm her, put her back into her bed and she slept right through till about 7am (when we were getting up anyway!). So really really pleased! I think she just needed reassuring that we hadn't disappeared in the night.

Phoebe is very gracious about letting me and my husband share her bed every night . I slept with her in the lounge till she was potty trained, and it went really, really quickly.

Do what suits you and your family best - sounds like it is going great!

Both mine have always slept in the bedroom with us, still do. Princess still claims the same corner that she took over a year ago as her bed. Gracie has decided recently that she wants to sleep with us. She is getting so big, so broad, doesnt leave alot of room for my husband and I. Just need a bigger bed.

Our pup has slept in her crate in the kitchen since the first day she came home. Our breeder told us to do this because she was very Fussy about being in there and started barking all the time to be let out. After a couple of nights she was fine tho. I've been wanting for her to stay out of her crate at night but I still can't trust her not to chew on things. She IS completely housbroken and has been since four months old so i'm not worried about that anymore lol.

We really would love for her to just be sleeping in our bedroom with us on the bed if she wants but the problem is she doesn't settle down. SHe just keeps jumping all over the place and running around, on the bed off the bed and doesn't stop... so this hasn't been a succes as of yet lol.

Bluedawg has allways slept in my room and on the bed after got big enough to jump up.

I personally would have her on the bed now. Because I am weak and she is just too cute I said she would sleep in the kitchen, and she is, but.... I know my boyfriend does NOT want her on the bed, so I guess she stays in the kitchen.
