How often do you replace your dog's nail clippers? Tucker's opinion of nail trimming was ruined by dull clippers (and me just thinking he was being bratty and difficult). He's much better now but I want to make sure I don't make that mistake again. So how long can you expect a pair of clippers to last? Or do you just watch the dog for signs of discomfort?

Well I've been using the same nail clipper for 5 years if that answers your question LOL. Before getting Juno I never clipped my dogs' nails.

I guess I would go by how it feels and how your dog is reacting. I'm comfortable using my clippers, I don't feel like I have to use any extra force or anything to get the job done. And my guys don't react any differently to them than they did when it was brand new 5 years ago, so I'm happy to continue using this pair. But, one of the clippers we have at work, all of a sudden I just hated using it and I'd have to put some muscle into it to get it to clip, so obviously at that point we needed a new one.

So the short answer is that I'd just keep using them until they're dull and not cutting as well. =P

This is going to sound absolutely terrible....but I gave up on Zander's nails. For this very reason. I replace clippers whenever I stare at Zander's feet and cringe.

I have probably spent well over hundreds of dollars on nail clippers for his ridiculous monster claws. They all go dull after ONE ROUND. ONE. By the end of his fourth foot I'm already struggling and they are just splitting his nails rather than clipping them cleanly. And a dremel takes hours for one foot for the same reason. They are just super thick and dense and strong.

The last pair of clippers I replaced was less than a year ago, I think. It's the orange Miller's Forge pair. They're too dull to cut hair with. It's like my 5th pair in three years. I've considered mini bolt cutters or something.

I've had the same pair for almost 4 years now and it's still sharp and looks brand new. I rarely use them though. I do my dogs nails at work typically and when I do I just borrow the clippers at work. I only clip the tips and then dremel the rest of the way down. My dogs get their nails done every 2-3 weeks.
