Scarves, hobbies, house repairs? The thread about which scarf to choose caused me to think about how different we all are in what we will spend money on. Those scarves were beautiful but sooooo pricey. (to me) I'd never spend that much money on something like that. And yet, I'm spending way, way over what I planned on this landscaping project I've been working on all summer. I'm so over budget, I could have put hardwood floor all over my main level or if it needed it, I could have renovated an entire kitchen and all my bathrooms, crown molding could have been put all over. I could have bought a new car. Holy cow!

So, I'll spend money on my house or yard. My yard is to be an extension of my living space and a sort of sanctuary...a zen place. lol. I'm very affected by my environment. It has so much to do with how I feel...my moods, connections. (I sound like a hippy) :D I'll go for certain hobbies and put a fair amount into what I like to do. My art work, my education. I'll be somewhat frugal with things like groceries, but I don't say "no" to much as long as it's healthy and quality. I have fun buying things for my kids or helping them out when desperate... when I can. I'll go to the ends of the earth for my dogs if they require special care...when practical or helpful. But clothes aren't one of my big interests. I do what I have to do to not look like a ragamuffin. LOL. And even once in a while, I will splurge a little...like when I lost weight. But still...very conservative and pretty cautious about my money going out for that sort of thing. Where shoes are concerned, I do spend quite a bit because I have trouble with my feet a little bit. So, not so many pairs of shoes, but good ones.

So, what interests do have where you tend to spend quite a bit of your money and what kinds of things do you hold back on or be careful about. (Or is this a rude kind of question?)

    ^^^^^ that!

Most of mine is spent on the kids, house needs. I dont think Jeremy or I have actually been shopping for our selves out of necessity the entire time we have been together. Our extra money goes into house stuff or things for the family.

Most of my money gets spent on the dogs. Classes (when I still had to pay for them) were HUGE, collars, leashes, books, accessories, etc. My other hobbies aren't nearly as pricey. I spend some money on yarn and fabric and crafting accessories but it's not anywhere near the scale of the dogs. Maybe once I FINALLY pay off my school loans I can have a really expensive hobby. Or lots and lots of yarn. Lol

Frodo! But I'm really trying to scale back after going to the UofM, and realizing that I can give him a life that is 99 times better than the average pet home without my whole paycheck going to him. He doesn't need raw food every day and bully sticks multiple times per week! He doesn't need a new collar every other month!

My paychecks are pretty dismal, so anything that isn't going to rent/student loans/bills pretty much goes to groceries. I LOVE cooking, so I don't mind a ton, it just sucks when I have to forgo cool stuff (like the awesome rat wheel and some kitchen equipment that I've been wanting) so I can have food in the apartment.

Lately we have just been hoarding money saving for a house but other than that most goes to the horses, guns, and boats.

I splurge on purses occasionally in the 800$ range but rare occasion.

I put a lot of money into my old motorcycle (the new one not so much), now that I think about it. I tend to spread it out so it doesn't feel like as much, but it has been a big investment and it only runs for fifteen or twenty minutes at a stretch before something else breaks! As a kid, we did a lot of sharing and we rarely had the permanence of "this is my ____ (toy/money/whatever)" as it was liable to be needed elsewhere. The bike was the very first thing that belonged completely to me. I spent hours and hours locked up in the garage pulling things apart and sanding and welding and getting all my thinking done at once.

I mainly spend extra money on either ebooks or the animals. Though I have a really bad habit of ordering out, usually sushi or thai.

I like leather coach bags. I have more expensive taste but can't spend two grand on a bag.

I don't really know. I haven't had a job, so I don't buy anything lol! When I do have money though, I always make sure I get a good deal. I don't spend money for the hell of it. I think once I have a job, I will spend most of my money on the dogs. But also on voice lessons, and clothes.

I'm not a bag type of person, I'd take a backpack around if I didn't feel like I would be a suspected shoplifter everywhere :lol-sign: but a lot of our customers have coach bags, I just never realized they could get that expensive!

I hate fabric coach bags with the Cs all over them.

I love mulberry bags as well but not the prices and its hit or miss with them.

There is a such thing as Extra money?

Chris and I will take a bill and go blow it at the casino once every 2 months or so , and if I am lucky I get the chinese buffet also.

Other than that , we put the kids and house first and there isnt much left after that.

Mmm coach. I have a coach outlet store about 3 hours away and got a rather pricey bag there for cheap. If I had the disposable income though I wouldn't hesitate to buy regular price, the quality is amazing.

Coach bags are a poison of mine as well. I have somewhere between 10-15 of them. I don't buy the $800 ones, though. It's been about a year since I've bought one, though, since I have so many to cycle through anyway!

Vacations. We put a big chunk into our vacation savings account every month for our yearly trip. Vacations are probably my biggest "poison," and one of the most important things to me.

Dresses. I generally don't spend more than $100 on each of them, but I have a lot. Definitely a weakness of mine. I almost died last weekend when the store of one of my my favorite brands was having a massive sale :p Massive sale meaning dresses marked down under $100!

Dog collars and tags. I'm a sucker for a well made leather collar, and my dogs have more than they'd ever need!

General dog needs. I love buying them new toys and treats.

The dogs, and books...sometimes a plant or two (I have several indoor plants). Food... I love to cook. I also love going and trying new restaurants.

If I think about this too long you will have a list of things that I would like to spend more money on as long as your arm ;)

Same here! We're bad about eating out as well.

Apparently, there are too many "poisons" out there!

Dog trialling, definitely, especially dock diving, but thankfully this year I've gotten several sponsors so I can feed my addiction without breaking the bank!

DH and I do like nice dinners, whether we go out or eat in, so we also spend a fair amount on high quality foodstuffs.

Disney trips. disney stuff in general. I have to show A LOT of restraint anytime we go to the Disney store lol and I always take advantage of their sales online and in store. I have almost all of the kid Christmas shopping done already lol and while not all of it is from the Disney store there is quite a bit that is and I spent hardly anything on the stash of gifts I have in the storage space under the stairs.

    I have this purse:

it was only $25 lol. I would LOVE a Dooney and Bourke disney purse but I just can't spend that kind of money on a purse not even a Disney purse. I think my brain would explode if I did lol.

Dining out...We dont' go anywhere fancy but we eat at the diner at least once a week and I would say we have a meal out two to three times a week. We both love to cook but we also love going out to eat. We don't usually go out for dinner... it's always breakfast or lunch. I don't know why. we just prefer to go out for lunch and do dinner at home.
