Whats up with fad ear amputation (pics)?

I am all for ear cropping on certain breeds, but I think people take it WAY too far sometimes. I have seen too many pitties that just have their ears completely hacked off and it makes me sick.

What kind of vet would do a crop like the following? Or does it look home made to you? It seriously looks like some vets would do anything for money, really.

I feel so bad for this little puppy. I would consider it animal abuse, but thats my own opinion...

that looks home done but Tytus has a very close working crop that actually serves a function as being in the breed you probably know. Thats his.

I like natural ears best anyways but that crop job scares me. All that pup has left is a stump

Even he has a longer crop than the puppy I posted. Dog fighting is outlawed, so I dont really see the point of cutting the dogs ears completely off. the pup doesnt even have a point to her ears. seems weird to me.

sadly that is the only reason I can think of that short of a crop Tytus has a normal working crop from a good APBT crop vet. The main thing that points out home job to me is the point on the one ear and the curve on the other and the fact that they are not even. And sadly some of the clothes brands you see in the background of the pics kinda makes you think that way.

Yeah, the owner only has this dog for macho status. The captions for the pics are... "she is so ripped already!!" and "shes already a good protector yo"

Oh that's awful! It really does look like a home job.

We have a dog in town that's mostly cane corso (they say part fila, I laugh). His ears look almost like that poor puppy. When they were first done I was horrified (he had really cute natural ears that really should have been left alone). I assume it was a home job, simply because of how terrible they look, plus they never healed properly. The cut edge has a scalloped look to it too.

That looks like a total home chop to me, probably when the pup was a tiny babe...........I can't imagine any vet that would do THAT type of crop. I could be wrong though, it takes all kinds

THAT kind of cropping I don't agree with at all. It isn't about the looks, that is all opinion, it's about someone taking babies into the basement and hacking with no anesthetic, no pain meds after or any sterile conditions. :(

It is probably a splay-footed, wonky-fronted APBT.
You took the words right out of my mouth. I was going to say, "Nevermind the ears! Look at the front of that poor dog!!!"

So, not only does this poor dog have a horrible home crop job (because if any vet did a crop that sloppy, they should NOT be doing crop jobs), but it is deformed in the front and will suffer as an adult, PROBABLY from arthritis, or be completely dysfunctional as far as its athletic abilities are concerned. That looks like one of those "Short and wides" and is the very freakin' reason that most people cannot identify an american pit bull terrier and think that anything 80 lbs and muscular is a real APBT and will eat their babies.

ACK.

One more breeder to add to the list of breeders f&&king up the breed.
NICE.

Now, just my opinion, but I think dobes look better with cropped ears than they do without. Ben disagrees, but I seriously think that dobes look better with cropped ears.

I do too Becca, I like Danes, Boxers, and Bullies with their natural ears..........but a dobe just looks more clean cut and less "houndy" with their ears cut.

I think it's because a dobe has a narrower/slender face and the cropped ears allow that gorgeous face shape to be seen better. I think regular ears on a dobe just kind of hide that beautiful facial structure.

But Ben swears that natural ears just look adorable on dobes. I think it makes them look less "dobe".

er...not to be insulting to those with dobes with natural ears. It's just a matter of personal preference to me where looks of a breed are concerned.

I have had them both ways, my last boy was natural and Orson is cropped. I would still have a natural eared dobe no problem..........it's their personality that I adore, but if we are talking preference I prefer cropped :)
