Cool little side note about this video - the women with the Border Collies and Brittany owns the place where we practice dock diving! :)

Otherwise, I have no idea what my dogs would do. Well, I can guess Lizzie would be upset just because she doesn't enjoy strangers to begin with. The rest? No idea.

I've done a bit of personal protection training with Judge. He has been tested both in the house and in the car. He is not a dog that barks when someone knocks, but he does rush the door. So, if someone came in my house unannounced and I was home, he would rush the door and do a hold and bark, if they pushed past, he would bite them. He proved this through training and also when an ex guy friend walked in my front door while I was in the shower, mind you guy had only met the dogs once and was told to call when he arrived. His fault. His use of force was completely appropriate for the situation.

In the car, he has never had a real encounter, thank god. He is a beast in the car. He is normally crated in the car for this reason. But when he does ride loose, he will guard it with his life. In training situations he has proven time and again that no one is getting in the car with him in it.

LoLa, LoLa,LoLa....her temperament isn't what some would approve of for the APBT breed but she is a solid stable dog. She is friendly and sweet but she would protect me if the need arose. She is a horrible car guarder as well, as long as she doesn't know the person at all. If she has met them even once, then they can climb in the car and do whatever. At home, she rushes the door barking and growling. If I was in danger, she'd protect me but I highly doubt she'd ever protect the house.

Hobie is getting softer in his old age but he would protect me with his life. I owe my life to him actually. I was in a very abusive relationship when I was younger, Hobie attacked my ex to stop him from hitting me allowing me to get to the phone to call for help.

Some people wouldn't want their dogs to act like mine do in certain situations but I love them and appreciate each and every one of them.

That said, Hobie is the only dog allowed free roam when I'm not home. He isn't a threat to anyone because he isn't a territorial dog. All 3 of them sleep loose in the house though, Judge and LoLa in my room and Hobie in the main part of the house. I figure if someone comes in at night uninvited they deserve to be bit.

Ziva would bark her head off, but greet if they came in.

Kestrel I'm not sure. DH surprised him one night when I was on the other side of the house and Kes did an admirable hold and bark after backing him into a corner. His body language was insecure/conflicted, but he held him in place and barked until I called him off.

Aeri, again, not sure.

Snipe would bark and bounce at them, happy to have visitors.

It is anyone's guess what Watson may do... he may either continue his nap if he was taking one, follow the intruder around politely and watch everything they do. He does not bark...but he might yodel if he is happy to see them. A basenji yodel is a rather off-putting sound if you do not know that it is motivated by pure happy ;)

Menchi would posture and bark until the person actually entered...then they become a visitor and visitors are fun. I can only hope that one overenthusiastic, bouncily greeting shar pei hitting the burglar like a ton of fawn bricks will make them fall and knock themselves unconscious. :D

Petie would bark and lunge he has pinned a few ppl up against the door when they came into a hotel room or our house uninvited. Push come to shove, I 'think' he would back it up with a bite.

Bobbi? lol he would escort them in and want to join them when they left.
Hailey, nothing but would be offended if they didn't stop to say hi to her.
Who, bark, then greet.
Sprout would want to greet, then ignore them.

Bindi the pittymix is my favorite <3 lol she wiggles and waves!!
Bindi is actually a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, they had some trouble with the breed name in the report :lol-sign:, but she definitely is. And her behavior is exactly what I'd expect from my dogs, though mine would probably use different tricks.

Most bull breeds would probably act like that. I have a friend who I know through the internet, and a few years ago, I was traveling through her state, so I went to meet her. She had to work at the time I was arriving, so she left the key under the mat for me, and when I got there, I let myself in, greeted her pit bull, put her in a crate, and brought my own dogs in.

Bodhi would bark and woo. But if they actually entered I think she'd just look.at them suspiciously. Fred is a wuss :) he'd hide.

I don't believe Fleetwood would ever be brave enough to bite or use force against an intruder, and I would never expect him to. Twice I have had unfamiliar people (to him, anyway) walk in unannounced while I was in another room, and Fleetwood cornered them both and wouldn't let them through until I called him off. In one case, the person tried to walk past him and Fleetwood made it clear that he wasn't getting past...

Now, there are variables. If I was not there, he certainly would be waaaay less confident, and certainly end up following the guy around watching from a safe distance barking or trying to figure out a reasonable explanation for him being there, lol. Second, Fleetwood is sensitive to the type of person. If it is a friendly woman or kid, Fleetwood would take to them quickly. If its a raggedy guy that smells like booze and drugs, he's gonna have an issue.

Solo sounds and looks super mean but would totally keep his distance and bark. I tried an attack scenario once with my husband disguised in a field and Solo ran away like a chicken, lol.

I don't know what Pan would do. I'm pretty sure she would bite if she met them at the door, but if they persisted in coming in she might join ranks with Solo, just making noise while keeping some distance, maybe going in for nips.

Ozzy will bite. He's got no trouble with that. Indy is crate when we're not home, and so is Knox, though if Knox was loose, he wouldn't bark. He just charges. A lot like Elsie, something similar happened to DH when I was sleeping and Knox was loose. He charged him down the hallway, and DH yelled out it was him. He was completely silent, but again, the kitchen light was on, DH was backlit and Knox doesn't use his nose often enough.

Enzo would leave with them. Indy, I'm not sure. She shows no sign of being protective, and I haven't had her on a decoy for a long time. She's not terribly interested in it lol.

If *I* was threatened, Ozzy would bite me. Enzo would run, Indy, idk. Knox would bite if I could give the command, but if I couldn't, idk.

1. WTF is a "Stratfordshire terrier"? :rofl1:

2. Gavroche would at least bark and charge if not bite. If it was a woman, though, all bets are off.

3. Logan would go "OH HAI! PET MY BUTT! I LOVE YOU!"

Saga would let anyone in. I'm pretty sure Nico would too. He is very exuberant and in your face in his greetings and interactions with people though, so that COULD be enough to back somebody off. If *I* was being threatened, again, Saga probably wouldn't do anything. Nico most likely would at least do a bark and hold ( just ask the Japanese restaurant in Bowling Green that he defended me from...) and possibly, probably bite.

Totally don't have a dog now.

When I was sixteen, we had a chocolate lab named Boss. My parents went out and snuck in from the second floor window to see how we would react if there was a robbery (we were two floors down with Boss). They both jumped and landed as hard as they could and a huge 'bang' rang through the house.

Well, Boss ran to the top of the stairs to wait for us to open the door. We grabbed an aerosol can and a broom to use as our defense weapons and opened the door. Boss rushed up to the second floor, into the parents room, and nailed my dad in the leg so hard he needed stitches. I guess they forgot they had a dog, or that he was so protective of his 'kids', pfft.

I have a friend who frequently borrows things from me, and when I'm in the neighborhood I'll send her a text and she'll tell me to just walk in through the back door to pick up whatever I need if she's not home. At first I'm greeted through the window by this menacing black dane... but as soon as I walk through the door she becomes velcro and lets me walk around the house - she's done this with people she's never met, too. If you get boring though, she'll go snooze on her dog bed. I think her looks and bark are a pretty good deterrent if you can see her through the window, though, haha.

Bogs, the hybrid will no doubt show his nervousness. He usually runs away when there are unfamiliar faces. At times he would even pee. The Spitz though would make a racket. This one really makes a good guard dog as he shows aggression to strangers.

This thread is awesome. Lets me know who is safe to rob :D
Lets me know which dogs I can steal.... :rofl1:

I'm pretty sure my dogs would do nothing to protect the house. If I were really lucky Murphy could incapacitate a male intruder by hitting them in their manly bits - he has dead on aim regardless of height. The girls are crated when we're gone but if they were BOTH loose they would most likely get in a fight with each other and forget about the robber. If Mu were loose I think she'd just follow the intruder around and bark. Tipper would either go all wiggly butt and insist on being loved, or pee all over the place and hide.

I'm not sure what they would do if I were in the house. Murphy would guard me for sure but I don't know if he would back it up with a bite. Mu would definitely guard me and I *think* she would bite. Tipper would hide behind me. Lol.

I'm firmly in the camp of "I'd rather my dogs not antagonize the robber and get hurt." Actually the main thing I worry about with a robber is them letting my dogs out or leaving the doors open. I'd really rather they just take all my stuff.

Gambit would growl, and maybe bark, but he would be useless to actually back it up. That said though, when he comes out of the dark, doing the coyote slink and staring right at you, he's very scary, and that's coming from his Mommy! He actually scared my father one night in his own home creeping out of another room, and he loves my Dad.

A few years ago there was a break-in here, and the woman had an English Mastiff and a Westie.

She got home to the door pressed in and blood EVERYWHERE, but no intruder.

They caught him when he showed up at the ER to get 130 stitches.

He didn't know she had an English Mastiff. Apparently that dog hid under the dining room table the entire time. The Westie did a good job of keeping the house safe, though.

I'm a dog walker. I'm coming into people's homes around their dogs ALL THE TIME. Even when it comes to very new dogs that have never seen me before or had a walker.. even if they start out apprehensive or aggressive even.. I keep a friendly demeanor and they ALWAYS mellow out.
Yep. I delivered pizza for three years and frequently when I got past people's dogs and knocked on the door, they would say "Wow, she didn't bite you?!". I never entered fenced properties, so I don't get why they would have a dog loose that might bite. It was very rare to find a dog I thought would mean business. There was ONE time where I pulled up and a dane was lunging at my face behind the car window and I decided to wait for the owner, hah.

Haha I even picked up this little chihuahua that was running down the road, she had tags with the address but no phone number. I went to the address and it was fenced, there was a "Beware of Dog" sign..I entered the fence to get to the house, was almost at the porch when a dogo came out of nowhere...smiling and licking and wagging, hahaha.

Chase is crated when we're not home, but if she were loose while we were out I doubt she'd do anything. Bark a bit maybe?
I once left her out for the day and when I came home I banged on the door and whipped it open and she was just standing at the top of the stairs wagging her tail.
If we were home and someone tried to get in though... She'd growl and show her teeth, hackles up. Would she bite? I don't know. Probably.
