There is a woman who comes to my town 2-3 times a year with a van load of puppies. And by van load, I mean upwards of 20-25 puppies. She goes to various parking lots in town (some of which she has been kicked out of) and sets up "DESIGNER DOGS!!" signs and sits and waits for people to buy them. She had 6 or 7 puppies on the dash of her van and she opened the back and the seats have been taken out and the back crammed with cages that are crammed with puppies.

She also has this add in our paper.
Adorable small or tiny, pure bred or mixed bred, puppies and older dogs for sale. Shih-tzu, Pugs, Yorkies, Chihuahuas and Jack Russells

I know shes got a lot more breeds than that...because most of those werent even listed on her signs.

Now for the best part.

This weekend she was peddlin' puppies at the Wal-Mart....Yes, the store that marks all its doors "no solicitation" So, I went in and asked the manager why she was allowed to sell dogs there.

He told me "She makes a donation to charity so we rent the parking space to her":yikes: :yikes:

I told him what a puppy mill was and what him, and his store were supporting, told him it was offensive to animal lovers, and left.

Well the next day, she was still there, so a friend and I printed off BYB info and puppy mill info flyers and passed them out to people in the same parking lot where she was selling puppies. We brought in a flyer to the manager (a different one than I had spoken to before) He ws actually sort of receptive to it...:)

I called Wal-Mart's head office and asked if this was common practice, to rent out parking spots. She said it was up to the manager of the store and she would look into it and call me back...Still waiting for that call.

A friend who works for the local animal shelter also let me know that 2 of the "van puppies" have already been hospitalized.

How can we get this woman to know she it not welcome in this town!? She lives 3 hrs away and comes up here(and god knows how many other towns) to sell her dogs and its crap!! What else can we do? We have called the by-law(shes got a business licence so theres nothing they could do) handed out flyers, tried to get Wal-mart to kick her out....we need ideas!

Lovely:rolleyes: . Good for you for trying to help out. We used to have someone nearby that sold puppies out of a truck. Chows and border collies (and sometimes Chow/border collies!). I know he eventually got arrested, but I never heard what they finally got him on; it may not have had anything to do with the dog sales. Keep doing what you can; even if you convince one person not to buy from her, you've made some headway.

contact animal control, unless she has a dealers lisence there is a limit to the amount of puppies she can legally sell for one, for 2 it sounds like shes got to be edging on quite a few animal cruelty laws.

good luck!

Perhaps take out an ad in your local paper talking about the reasons why puppies should not be bought from disreputable sources (or how to recognise a disreputable breeder/seller)?

I like the picket idea too. :D Maybe you could print off some more fliers and do a letter drop with some friends? Make sure you appeal to people's selishness and greed...mention how much more expensive these pups can be (as far as vet bills are concerned).

I don't have any better ideas, sorry. I, too, applaud your efforts so far though and I wish you the best of luck stopping her.

Ooo...just one last thought. Perhaps get a current affairs show interested or a local news program...talk to them about puppymills and how disgusting it is what she's doing. Give them a good juicy, heart breaking story and they just might help you out. ;)

Is she still peddling?

was reading thru and wondered if this *gag* breeder was still peddling puppies on parking lots?

I like the picketing idea....also let people know that a parking lot isn't the place at all to buy a dog!
