Not like it's never been done before, but I dig this sort of stuff. I wanted some of Auggie. So - why not?

I can't decide which one I like more... I think I'll take the red one out and get it printed tomorrow, mat it, frame it, and see how it looks. If all is a-okay I'll roll out and start selling.

(Not Auggie - this is of a sheltie from a shelter. The ear set on this dog was more appropro for a generic sheltie silhouette.)

Again, can't decide which I like more. One day my home office will be hot pink and green so I think I'll put these both up there in the office....

I did a brown one of the pittie, too, but I didn't like the shade of brown after I looked at it with fresh eyes - so just the one colour.

And to go with the agility sheltie...

I think the agility sheltie is my favourite, but this is a pretty close second. Maybe it needs a third sheep...

And the shop title image... this took me probably three times as long as any of the images because I kept changing my mind on how I wanted it to look. FEATURING AUGGLES!!

ETA: Oh yeah - give me breed suggestions/throw pics of your dogs at me in PM so I can play with some stuff? (Allie I'm definitely looking at you. FINNAMIN PICS PLZ.)

You are more than welcome to use any of the pics of my dogs, Beanie, although I don't know that Kharma would lend herself to the heavy graphics, lol!

Have you thought about doing a series of four of that first one in four different but related colors, a la Andy Warhol?

So far it seems like it depends on the dog when it comes to what kind of photo works best! I start working from the photo first, but after the initial drawing there's a lot of fudging that goes into it. I did one of Happy in 3/4s and had to take a lot away after I first drew it. It was almost like there was too much and it just didn't look right to me. I had to finally quit really looking to the photo for reference and just draw what kind of "felt" right, if that makes sense, rather than what is visually correct when it comes to the negative and positive space.
But then I did one of Kota and actually had to add stuff IN that wasn't in the picture, because it didn't feel right at first. After I finished I showed it to my mom, and she said "Oh, that's Kota. That's definitely Kota. I can tell."

Since it's a silhouette you sort of lose things in the translation, so there's a lot of intuitive stuff going on trying to find the right balance between too much and too little, and still catching the overall look or "feeling" of the dog... but that challenge is what makes it fun for me. X3

I'm playing more with them tonight, I'll post more!

OZ:

his ears <3

Kota on the left, Happy on the right.

Very obviously my Auggie doggie because of his big obnoxious smile...

And just for fun... two little border collies. Can you tell who is who? (No cheating by looking at the file names either, you sneaks! *shakes finger*)

Oh gosh, I'm sorry guys. I dumped everything out of the web gallery last night because I'm putting up a little website in that folder, so I was cleaning up. I didn't think too much about all the broken links I was leaving behind...

Here's the website so far, but the "samples gallery" page doesn't work yet. I haven't 100% decided how I'm going to set that one up.
Dogged Illustration
The blog link works but all of those photo links are broken too (plus I think I'll be changing the blog around.)

But if you click here:
Index of /doggedillus/art

That will bring up a directory of all the images so far. The preview images hold a small thumbnail of all 12 basic colour options; the larger file of the same name (like PREVIEWsheltie and sheltie-dkb.jpg) will show what that image looks like.

These are new as of yesterday:

On smkie's suggestion, I changed up the corgis a bit... haven't had the chance to upload the new Cardi, but here is the new Pemmie:

I like them better this way, too, so thanks smkie. =>
