What extras do you give your dog(s)?

Buddy absolutely loves watermelon and will stare us down until he gets some, lol.. he likes certain apples. Carrots he'll eat and broccoli if he's in the mood... what other kinds are good for them and what do you feed?

They can have pretty much anything but grapes/raisins, onions, and excessive amounts of garlic. Anything that has pits should have them removed though, and apples should be cored.

As snacks I generally feed any fruits and veggies I have on hand, for batches of food it depends on the other ingredients I use and how they need to be balanced.

Quigley loves carrots, broccoli and red bell peppers especially but will eat pretty much any veggie except celery sticks.

His favorite fruit is banana, but he also loves cantaloupe. The only fruits sp far that he won't eat unless they are mixed in with something else are acidic things like pineapple and strawberries.

He's a funny little guy who will actually choose a bowl of steamed, mashed veggies over raw meat when given the choice. :D

That is funny, Mordy.

How much garlic is okay? It's supposed to be good for them isn't it?

And I read that tomatoes are okay?

Hm. My dogs will eat pretty much any veggie if it cooks but they like raw too. they'll eat carrots, bananas, strawberries, cantaloupe. They like to steal things too if I don't clean the counter. Sakari has gotten into all kinds of things including rice paper wrappers and nori  They also love canned food but I try not to give them too much.

Roxy will eat anything I eat but her faves are: strawberries, raspberries, peaches, small pieces of apple and french fries  I know they're not exactly healthy! LOL

I don't know where nuts fit in but she *loves* cashews and almonds are OK. LOL

Hades doesn't especially like the fruits, well he doesn't *love* them like Roxy does but he eats all of the above too, his fave being cashews.

They all love tomatoes, Keegan loves peanuts, they dont much care for fruit, and you can forget bananas compleatly. Mashed potatoes are a favorite, and add in a bit a gravy, oh boy! They'll also gobble down anything with garlic in it too. (In moderation) Dakota is in love with Tic-tacs and other minty items. Aurora likes taco sauce, but she never gets it. Ranger loves birdseed, but hardly gets it either. Keegan will "eat" crackers. All she does is licks the salt off them, and spit them out. She also loves corn on the cob. She eats it like we do, just with her front teeth. When the corn is gone, she leaves the cob alone.
Keegan also loves lima beans, so we make a great team cause I hate them.
I know this is for dogs, but one of our cats, Booger, will eat almost anything. We call her the "carbo-kitty". Bread is her favorite. She's eaten an entire Pringle chip, and just the other day she ate some steamed carrots. And Whiskey (another cat) loved canned mushrooms.

Tira has shown an interest in the lettuce off of the Wendy's crispy chicken sandwiches. LOL :) Gunner will have nothing to do with it, but Tira gobbles it down. They'll eat anything you give them (green beans, potatos, mashed potatos, meats, macaroni, spagghetti (no sauce), bread, hot dogs...you get the idea. :) No, they don't get these things on a regular basis either.

How much garlic is okay?

Dr. Pitcairn suggests up to 1/2 to 3 cloves per meal, depending on the dog's size as a digestive remedy, but there's no need to use that much on a regular basis. I generally use 1-2 cloves per 3-5 pounds of food I prepare.

Shiva, having finally finished her heat, got to go blackberry picking with me this morning. She thoroughly enjoyed letting Kharma lick her lips and be jealous afterwards, lol!

WOW! That's a lot! I was thinking it would be a very small amount... we've never given Buddy garlic... hmmm. What is garlic good for again?

Oh, by the way, Mordy, we FINALLY got Buddys supplements and will be starting them tomorrow! ;)
