Caty is from the dog rescue I volunteer with. It's really bothering me that we don't have the slightest idea of what breeds Caty is to tell potential adopters. I recently started thinking she might be a Pit Bull Terrier/Lab mix, but something for those two breeds is NOT lining up. She has to have something else too. Border Collie? I don't know :p

When Caty first came to us, she weighed a healthy 35 lbs. She's been in a couple foster homes and each time she has gained a couple pounds. She just came back from a foster home (they had her for about 3 months) and she has gained at least 15 lbs. Caty now weighs a hefty 60 lbs for such a small statured dog. Definitely needs to lose some weight now that she's back in our director's hands.

Caty is approximately 7 years old. She has a very short glossy brown and white coat. Her tail is like a hook and she has a long nose. Her body is compact and square in proportion. She has a deep chest and high set rose ears. Her bark is kind of raspy and high pitched. She is very mellow and very smart. She is also very athletic. She is really sweet and sensitive and attaches to her people really quick. She's great with other dogs and kids. She likes to chase cats.

What breeds do you think Caty has in her?

Thanks!

To me, she looks like a pointer (or maybe Coonhound)/Border Collie mix. I'm not really seeing any Lab at all.

She reminds me a LOT of a Coonhound/Pointer thing that comes in for boarding, only a bit more "sleek" in the face. She also reminds me a bit of an old neighbor's dog, who was a Coonhound/ACD/Lab mix, but Caty also seems a bit more "sleek" to me.

So....my vote is going to be for Hound type/Herding type. :D

Thanks for the responses. Keep 'em coming! They are greatly appreciated.

I never thought about a GSP! She seems like she could be one, and perhaps mixed with Border Collie. I'll have to talk to the director tomorrow to see what she thinks and about changing Caty's breeds on Petfinder.

I will try to get some better pictures the next time Caty comes to an adoption event. These are from about 6 months ago when she wasn't so overweight yet.

Pops2 - I was told by a Greyhound rescue lady that Greyhound's don't come in Merle. I guess I was mis-informed? Can you provide some pictures to compare Ke$ha to? Ke$ha is the Greyhound on that page. I can't seem to find any photos of Merle Greyhound's quite like Ke$ha. She is currently staying at my house. The rescue Caty is from is different than the one the Greyhound is from. I volunteer for two different rescue organizations. Now that you said Merle Greyhound's are rare, it's making me wonder if she really is a Dilute Merle Greyhound, like the lady said. she's cream colored with really interesting black markings.

Hey! Just realized you're from Utah. What part? We believe Ke$ha came from a BYB in South Salt Lake City.

merle is gone from show & probably racing lines. but hunting greys are bred for catching game & like the show standard says color is immaterial. but even there merle is rare.
most rescues deal exclusively w/track dogs. so someone lacking knowledge of coldbloods wouldn't know merle is still around.
field dogs almost never find their way into the shelter or pound w/o some "help." in this case i would bet on a resentful family member or neighbor.

my friend Joe keeps a line of merle staghounds. he splits his time between st george & WVC. i asked him on the chance the pup came from his line. he'll be able to prove it w/o any problems as he can provide DNA proof of paternity. i don't know which ACs he checked.
