My poor daycare mom showed up yesterday in tears, shaking and very upset. She was walking over here to pick up her daughter when a boxer (off his leash) jumped up on her, started grabbing her arm in his teeth and growling at her. The owner (who is deaf) was metres away tying his shoe and not paying any attention to what his dog was doing! Here she was screaming at him "I'm 7 months pregnant get your dog off me" and he couldn't even hear her. And when he did look up, he waved a stick at the dog and it ran back to him. ARGHHHHHH. Luckily, the dog didn't break the skin on her arm, but he did leave some bad scratches on her stomach.

I can't believe that he had the dog off a leash and no control over it :-( Good thing he didn't hurt her, and also a good thing she didn't have her daughter with her yet!

Not to mention how terrified she was! And the thing that upset her the most was that this guy couldn't hear her when she was screaming at him for help....not his fault (obviously)--but then he should have had his dog leashed! It was 7:00 on a Sunday night--lots of people out for walks etc at that time around here.

Responsibilities are for everyone, even those who are deaf. The dog should have been leashed. I agree 100% with you.

The dog should have been leashed, there was no excuse, especially since he could not hear what was going on. That should make him pay even more attention to his dog, becuase of other people around, or because the dog could get hit by a car that the owner could not hear coming. There are too many dangers to even list. He definitely should have had that dog on a leash.

She didn't want me to call anyone, she just wanted to go home with her daughter. I couldn't get from her the exact location, but you are right--I should have insisted that we call I guess I really dropped the ball on that one.

OMG! How irresponsible can you get?! If the guy can't control that dog, he shouldn't have it. At least keep it leashed! Geez....some people. I hope the lady's baby is okay

You should try and get her to call even though time has passed. Who's to say that isn't going to happen the next time she is walking over to your house.

The dog could attack a child. It is a dangerous dog by definition, and the police should be notified. Then let THEM contact Animal Control.

I spoke to her, and she did call animal control today to at least file a report with them. When I questioned her further, this wasn't even an adult but a young teen out walking this dog! And he had NO control over it whatsoever

Most definately if you want to take on the responsibility of owning a dog then you need to take the responsiblilty of handling the dog and protecting the community. A dog is indeed a wonderful pet but can turn on a dime.
