Honestly I have really given up on the GP in regards to Rave.

"Oh he has such pretty blue eyes! *leer*" Which makes Rave uncomfortable.
Me- Please don't stare into his eyes, it makes him nervous.
Person- *spews some **** about how pretty his eyes are or alpha theory*

Yeah, so I've kind of made myself unapproachable when in public. If we're at Lowe's and I hear "Perro! PERRO!" and a stampede of tiny feet, I tell Rave to jump into my arms.

Now Cotton LOVESSSSS people, but people tend to not want to talk to her as "omg pitbullz" (she's a Boxer mix)

But the point everyone is missing I think is YOU have the RIGHT to SAY NO & MEAN IT to ppl touching your dog which is technically "property" no different (in the eyes of the law anyway)

When ppl don't listen I ask them if they would act the same way if my dog was a really nice car, "you wouldn't put your greasy fingerprints all over someone's freely waxed corvette." & that's what my dogs are ... They are freshly waxed corvettes & I DON'T WANT YOUR GREASY PAWS ALL OVER THEM!!!

Lol, don't be afraid to make a stand when it comes to your pets UOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO SAY NO & you don't owe anyone.

Awh, how upsetting. :(

When I go out with Frag and Sir, no one wants to pet EITHER of them, and I'm ok with that. Thankfully Sir loves people, but doesn't go all wigglebutt when he sees a human and make me sad that he won't be pet...

But while we're out separately, everyone wants to pet BOTH of them. Frag I decline on, Sir I usually let interact. Then 100% of the people love him (I've never gotten a negative comment about HIM) but 3/4 of those people will love on him for a few minutes, then ask his breed... and of course when I say pit bull, that 75% make a snotty comment about being afraid, hating/disliking them, a myth of the breed, etc. and walk away... I usually react with "Well you didn't hate him 2 minutes ago!" with a wink and walk away. It is nicer knowing that they are uneducated and worried about the stigma moreso than the actual dog and that they don't truely hate Sir.

Recon is 50/50 when we go out. Half of the people stop and gush over him, the other half don't acknowledge him. Whatever. I don't like talking to people anyway, like you!

Poor pup! I tend to gravitate to whatever dog wants to be petted, don't care what breed it is... all dogs are beautiful..........
Ditto. Fuzzy, short, tall, fat, thin....whichever dog (animal) acts like it WANTS my lovin' is the one I head for. Cuteness doesn't equal friendly, and I've seen some 'cuties' snap at people often enough when they've had it! LOL

That story did make me sad Fran :( I could visualize and it just got to me.

I guess I'm lucky I don't have to deal with that. When I have Orson out, people DO notice him and tell me he's a good looking dog, or pretty baby, etc etc....but none really want to come up and get touchy feely snuggly with him and that is FINE with him and me. He does not want to be touched, and it's nice for me that they can give a compliment and keep moving! LOL

Yeah I can picture that too & it sucks :(

I had a rescued bully/Dane mix when I was younger that was SUPER SUPER friendly & loved everyone ... But every one wanted to pet the other dog I had at the time, Sugar who was NOT friendly & HATED people simply because she was cute & fluffy looking (she was an Eskie / sheltie mix). He had these yellowish eyes that guess made people nervous lol ... That & he was almost 100 lbs & totally ripped :p.

I don't really have an avoid worthy dog now since its obivous that Buddy is painfully friendly with his dancing, smiling & wiggling :/ people don't even tend to notice Josefina (which is good because she is totally wigged out by strangers smothering her) or if they do its only to tell me how thin she is & how I am cruel for not feeding her enough :wall: she gets 3 cups a day of high quality food SHE IS THIN ... IT'S JUST WHO SHE IS!!! :wall:

I've had this happen with Rolyx and my friends corgis. Use to effect me a little, as I felt so sorry for Ro standing there tail waving, waiting for his turn that would never come. But you get use to it and it's getting to the point now I kind of appreciate it...but Ro doesn't have all bad days. He gets half and half, a lot afraid but he has his fans too...I've had people cross the street to avoid him and others who won't take their eyes off him until they are up close to ask if they may pet him. I find children are the least afraid, and to my surprise the last few I've ran into were educated on how to properly greet a dog.

It was sweet what you did for your friend, it is hard not to take personal...but I hope she realizes it's not her dog that is the problem here.

You know what really sucks? A couple of friends have immaculately groomed Standard Poodles. When you are with them your dog will be invisible no matter how cute it is.

For those that want to ward people off of their dogs--I discovered by accident that if you warn approaching people that your dog just finished eating horse poop it stops them in their tracks. :D
I had a puppy with ringworm once. Told a lady not to let her son pet him. She and he proceeded anyway. I was stunned.

Everybody wants to touch Gambit. He's to the point now at work where he stands at the top of the stairs and looks at people bringing their dogs in. About 10 times a day I have the following exchange
Client: Oh, how pretty! Look at his pretty coat, hi fellow, come here?"
Me "Oh, he's won't approach strangers. He's very shy."
Client "Come here doggy. Oh you poor thing, someone must have abused you."
Me: "Nope, just shy. Here, let me take Fluffy Num Nums up to play"
Client "Come here pretty puppy...."

It would be better if it wasn't the same clients at least once a week. He will never come off of those steps and approach you, period. If he does, he'll be on the way to the E-vet, because he's probably dying.

Hmm, when Katalin was about that age she was such a showstopper - heads literally turned as we walked or worked in public lol. It was quite annoying at times and I didn't much care for it - Kat loved it though. When she started to get quite...large, I suppose the charm/novelty of it wore off and not as many folks were as inclined to stop us for a pet/to gush about her. She's sort of just happy with her person; if she gets attention and lovies she enjoys it too, but if she doesn't - meh.

I do feel for your friend and her dog - but personally, I like being left alone (at least while on walks lol).

Alot of the people and dogs I know prefer being left alone too lol....
