Prices vary a lot between shelters but here's the list from the biggest/most well known shelter in the area:

    Cats:
    5 months and under $120
    6 months to 1 year $95
    1 year and older $75

    Dogs:
    5 months and under $250
    6 months to 1 year $175
    1 year and older $125

    Small Animals:
    Ferrets: $55
    Rabbits: $35
    Guinea pigs: $15
    Small pets start at: $5

    vs the Denver Animal Shelter:

    Puppies
    (between 8 weeks and 1 year) $150
    Adult Dogs
    (between 1 and 6 years) $130
    Senior Dogs
    (over 6 years) $95

    Kittens
    (8 weeks to 6 months) $95
    Adult Cats
    (between 6 months and 6 years) $87
    Senior cats
    (over 6 years) $60

I do commonly see small/highly adoptable dogs at higher costs to help cover for expenses for other animals. I don't have a problem with that.
