Well, if it makes anyone feel better.....I got a call last evening from a lady who got one of the pups. She had taken it to the vet, just as she was instructed to do. The puppy was pronounced as healthy, got her innoculations, and the vet said that the pup was really more like 8 wks old. Not too young at all!
Thanx alot everyone.
I really hope you do not find out later what you have brought into your house for the litter of 11 to contract once they lose any maternal immunity they might have.
You have been very lucky so far. Illnesses that run rampant in shelters such as Distemper, Canine Parvo Virus, etc can hang around for extended periods waiting for a host who has a window of opportunity in their immune system. All puppies live through this window of opportunity for infectious agents as they lose their maternal antibody protection, and wait for their own immune systems to general immunity either from environmental exposure or vaccination.
While you might continue to be very lucky, IMO, by bringing in all these dogs on top of a litter of puppies, you are asking for the worst to happen.
While I'm glad to hear it, what would make me feel better would be if you had taken them to the vet and been told they were 8 weeks and if you had kept them long enough to be certain they are healthy.
One puppy can be healthy while another is sick ~ different immune responses among the individuals. There also hasn't been enough time since you got them for the incubation period to be over, so the puppy that was "pronounced as healthy" could still become sick.
I just love happy endings.
I wouldn't consider it a happy ending. There are still other pups you obviously will not get updates on because you didn't have a contract and was irresponsible.I just hope those new owners alter these puppies, and get them their vaccinations and take care of them the way they should have been when they were taken into your home.
I'm so curious. I almost made a separate thread about it, but I really don't want to 'rake that much muck'. While it's off topic, that didn't seem to be an issue in other areas, so, I figured why not just ask here.
So seriously, why do you folks respond to 'Bigdogs'? This question has no strings attached, answer how you feel, even if that includes animosity !
Because we're bored.
because there will be a lurker a newbie or anyone that DOESNT know she is wrong that reads this thread. THEY need to relize the mess she is creating even if SHE doesn't
Because the other members and guests can benefit from it.
