KIDS ACK! I love kids don't get me wrong... but I can't STAND kids that don't listen. And where the crap are their PARENTS!?!?!?!

I took Bamm out for a nice walk today. It's a REALLY nice day out so why not? There's a tennis court across from where I live. I take Bamm there every once in a while to do offleash training and play since it's a contained fenced off area.

So... Bamm is having a great time when all of a sudden like 10 kids come running up. I kid you not. They were like "*SQUEALS* DOG!!!!!! DOGGY!!!!!!"

Bamm doesn't have a whole lot of experience around kids. He kinda gets nervous when they run right up to him. So that bothered me. They ran up and were trying to stick their fingers through the fence. They were pratically ASKING to get bit. I gave Bamm a down command and he did so. Then I told the kids that I wasn't comfortable with them hanging around my dog. They said, "Oh but he's a pretty fox looking dog and we just want to pet him." I said, "I understand that, but he's not used to kids and it's not a good idea so PLEASE don't stick your hands through the fence and try and pet my dog"

Do they listen... NOOOOOOO....

This one kid stuck his arm through where the door to the tennis court is. He was trying to wave his arm around and yelling "WOOOOF WOOOOF WOOF WOOF!!!" at Bamm and started making growling noises at Bamm. I had to down Bamm again because he jumped up and started growling at the kid through the fence. I yelled at the kid and said they needed to go away. They wouldn't listen.

I walked over and grabbed Bamm's leash. Those kids weren't listening and for their safety and the safety of my dog, it was best to just leave.

What did the kids do?


THEY FOLLOWED ME... one kid was on a little trike type bike and tried to run into Bamm...

I yelled at them to get away

Awfully tempting to tell some kids to ride their bikes in the middle of the street sometimes, isn't it?

You'll like this . . . we had a rowdy four year old kid in the store today. His mom was TRYING very hard to corral him, but she was worn to a frazzle after working all day AND moving most of the night.

He really was being a brat - staying just out of her reach, etc.

Shiva's in the office, where there are windows all the way across from halfway up the wall, and the door is windowed on the upper half.

Mom tells kiddo to stay with her.

He wants to go find the doggy.

She tells him to leave the dog alone, that the dog doesn't want to play with little boys who can't behave themselves.

So, what does he do?

He runs up and smacks his hands on the window and barks.

And what does Shiva do?

Shiva explodes on the door and smacks her paws on the window and ROARS.

Mom laughed her ass off when he came running to hide behind her. "See, I told you the dog doesn't want to play with little boys who won't behave."

I really feel for her. She's got her hands full. She's adopting this child from a woman who is a junkie in prison and she's going through an untold amount of expense and hassle - and she's already raised her own kids, who are grown and through college now.

I'm just glad it was Shiva and not Kharma. Kharma's already convinced that hellions should be used for coyote bait All she wants to do around wild, undisciplined kids is to GET AWAY.

I hope those kids don't make a habit of hanging around the tennis court from now on to aggravate Bamm

I hope those kids learn their lesson the easy way and not the hard way. Last thign I want to hear about is how a dog bit a group of children and has to be PTS.

Ya I was so pissed off. I'm glad that for the most part Bamm listened to me and remained in a down. I felt it necessary to down him at first because he gets even more worked up if he's standing up or running around or something. I really hope they don't continue to run up everytime I take him out there. That's the only place close to home right now that we can do anything offleash because it's fenced in.

I'd still like to know where their parents were. I'm angry that they didn't care to listen to me and leave Bamm alone. That's such a huge safety risk for both the kids and Bamm.

Basically when they asked if they could pet him (while already sticking their hands through the fence and trying) I said no.. then they started going on the whole, "welllll whyyyy notttt. We want to pet him." I replied with...
"1. He's my dog and I said no. 2. He's not used to kids and I don't want one of you to get bitten. 3. Where are your parents? GO AWAY!"

I swear next time I'm going to have to bring a body guard to keep the kids back while Bamm and I make our escape...

I'm still really frustrated. I can't stand it when other people (adults and kids) fail to respect my wishes when it comes to handling either of my animals. When I say no I don't think it's a good idea for you to touch my dog then don't freaking touch MY dog. I don't say it to be an ass. I say it for the safety of both my dog and the person wanting to do the petting.

I don't let ANYONE pet Bamm until I see how he reacts when he sees them. He's picky about people a little. Most of the time hes perfectly fine, but occassionally he'll see someone and be on edge.

That's what I'm here for... I hope they don't harass you again until I can get there. Because I will drag them down to the police station by their ears. I also agree with what Smkie said... he learned a GOOD lesson from that.

Bring some REALLY good treats for Bamm next time. And are you bringing rope to tie those gates shut with?

Ya. I have a couple small leads that I'm using to tie them shut. I finally figure out how to fix one of the gates to where it shuts properly now though.

I took Bamm out there again this morning since there were no people around. He found a big branch and grabbed it and ran. He was running around the perimeter of the tennis court doing these half bounces in the air while growling with the branch in his mouth. SOOOOO CUTE and FUNNY.

I really want to make some super stinky treats for Bamm in these kinds of situations where there are kids or other dogs distracting him.

Hamburger is a BIG treat around this house. Hell, I take Middie off-leash when I have hamburger... he abandons squirrels for it.

hamburger would be a really good idea. I'm also going to try and see if I can find some recipes online to make some liver treats or something. Liver is pretty smelly.

It'll mark them as hooligans, leave a lasting impression without hurting them and lets their parents know exactly what they've been up to.

haha that's a good idea... should I be worried about their parents getting pissed at me for spraying them with that and doing something about it? I live in the ghetto and people are strange here.
