My girl Chiana was rushed to the vet today because she couldn't stand up. She'd try to get up then fall over. Of course once we carried her to the truck and got her to the vet she was up and walking around, though she was still a little wobbly. She's back to her normal self now.

The vet ran tests and told us that she has old dog vestibular disease. I've seen a few things about on here about this within the last few days and was wondering if any one had any dogs that have dealt with this. The vet said there isn't any cure for this and that we have to let it run it's course and that most dogs recover pretty well from it. I'm curious what else I should expect, are relapses common?

Any info on this would be great.

My housemates old collie has recently had 2 separate bouts. 1st was very severe. Took her a few months to recover, and she never fully recovered. 2nd bout was in her other ear strangely, and has had the effect of straightening her up lol! Still wobbly (but always was a bit), but full of life and happy!

There's a host of meds they try... Not sure which really made much impact....

It's got a pretty good prognosis though. They can keep their tilt. It's pretty distressing at 1st.... But recover well :)

My senior cocker spaniel had this...

...the vet is right there is very little that can be done. Basically you just wait and watch. You should see improvement over the next month.

My cocker recovered completely without any drugs.

If you didn't know something was wrong with her you'd think she was perfectly healthy. She's been her happy bouncy self since her episode, tossing slobbery balls in my lap and flinging her toys about. The only thing I really notice is when she shakes her head she stumbles a little.
