I vary from treats and a tennis ball. One of my dogs is more tennis ball motivated than the other so for quicker results the tennis ball comes into play. I vary the treats and don't use the same ones to keep them wondering what comes next.
I have been using a tennis ball or tug toys outside and treats indoors. It works for me. Jake isvery motivated by toys but I would rather not be throwing balls etc indoors.
