charlie dog is a 6 yr old american x english cocker spaneil mix..
he is a puppy mill rescue...
other than an achey hip hes been very healthy in this first 6 yrs...
tonight he started acting strange, let him and ruby out at about 9, no more than 3 minutes in he starts barking like crazy (usually its ruby that barks at her own shadow) so i go outside and find ruby stood by the door obviously freeked out, Charlie is stood at the bottom of the steps (raised ranch) growlig very visiously and barking in a panicd manner i havent heard from him since we had a guy prowling in the yard...
ruby tried to go down the steps and charlie let her know it was a bad idea and the driveway ligth was on.
as i called them in he bolted towards the gate barked a few more times and then came back in, he was kind of antsy after that, staring at the door and simply not settling.
at 10:15 he jumped on the couch and his face started twitching then his left leg, at first it looked like he had his claw stuck and he was trying to pull it out, then it looked like he was trying to whipe somehting from his eye, i recognives the twitching imediatly though (i AM epileptic) and started timing...by 10:16 it had done completly, he jumped off the couch, picked up a toy and did 3 laps round the livingroom (this is usually reserved for, yay visitor, yay i got a new toy or YAY someone gave me a huge amount of luvins...i swear, to see it youd think that hed veiwed this seizure as something to get super excited about. after completing his victory lap he tock a little drink a mouthfull of food then asked to go out to potty...i whent with him and he peed and pooped no problem and straight back in the house where he had another mouth full of food and picked up his squeeky toy and proeceded his usual squeek it till it squeeks no more routein.
during the seizure he was aware, eyes open and looking around, obviously a little spooked he was responding to his name and voices, he had quite a bit of control over his body, no fluid release, no drooling, just mild shaking in the body and the repetative "eye whipe" motion with the left paw.
prior to it he just seemed spooked since being out at 9...
and after...well youd never know anything happend.
i know seizures can be both blood sugar (i did notice he hasnt eaten much today) and stress related and im HOPING that the combination of not eating his dinner then whatever freeked him out was all it was...
but its still concerning.
gave him a couple drops of rescue remidy afterwards and made him sit quietly from the untill about 10 minutes ago when mum took him to bed...keeping him calm after was insanely impossible lol.
i called the evet and she confirmed, unless it starts happening frequently just keep an eye on him and keep a log.
i did some looking online and thinking mabe its time for a change in diet, finding a food that doesnt upset his stomach is going to be fun but i think hed benefit anyway as hes an itchy dog...
so yeah...
fun times, fun times...
mum was realy freeked out, my seizures are called freezes i dont physically seize like most, so shes never seen a shakey seizure, i dont think she'll be getting much sleep tonight...
Me...well truth i was a little worried, mostly because it was so random...but i think being epileptic helped and i calmly explained to mum, stay calm, talk to him and keep your fingers away from his mouth...just in case...
they sure like to give us mild heart attacks dont they!?!
