I am bumping old thread to say that I got triops today! Put eggs in to hatch, so we shall see! :)
Editing this post.

I still have my dried out eggs in a teeny container (I picked them out caaaarefully and stuck them into the original triop egg dish). Thinking of starting them again as a March project. :D Jess, you need to geek with me about Triops.

I'm finally hydrating my second generation of longicaudatus from the Bacon/Lettuce/Tomato/Runt lines. :)

Jess has a kit that's also longicaudatus. You got some cancriformis right? Get those going!! Let's journal together. :D

I need to find a heater and a five/ten gallon tank to sit on the table and I'm going to start mine. I have cancriformis as well. They've also been sitting on my computer desk for ages. :p

If you want to save some bucks, five gallon is HUGE for triops. This is a three gallon.

The triops are about mid-sized in this pic. And they stay mostly along the bottom anyway.

Oh man, I need to get mine out! I raised them during a summer program for kids a few years back and haven't hatched out their eggs. They are so cool!

I worked with one lady who told me "Oh, I got those for my kids one time but they started eating each other so we flushed them down the toilet."

*facepalm*

ALL OF YOU, come on! :D Join the fun. I don't want to be the only crazy Triops lady in this thread.

As of this writing I'm spotting five hatchlings - three slightly older ones and two newer ones. One of the older ones got itself caught on a tiny hair that wound up in the hatching bowl - can't really help it out so I'm dribbling spirulina in its head so it will eat and grow and get rid of it.

More eggs are floating about, so it's possible I may have a few more hatch, and a few hatchlings may die. They're so teeny. I did a water change today and I nearly went crosseyed making sure not to suck any up.

Marshall (boyfriend) suggested a fun naming convention this time around. ;)

Oooooh, these look like fun!! I want to do them, but I think I'll have to wait and see if maybe I can do them at the new house. Makes me miss having my fishies.

Looks like I'm back at four, go figure. :p Four out of fifteen eggs ain't bad though!

As per last time, there's a huge one and a runty one that may not survive. Keeping a close eye! Debating starting a second hatching dish for more. Then I wonder if they'll just get cannibalized when they hit the big tank. FRET.

CD I can't wait to see your spp ahhhhhh!

OK how has everyone set them up?

70/30 distilled/mineral water?

What size tank? Can I hatch them in a 10 gallon? I don't have anything smaller.

Sand substrate? If so from where, can I use the kind of sand you get in a load of sand, like from a dumptruck? 'Cause we already have a load of sand in the yard.

Playbox sand, aquarium sand (please don't say I have to buy aquarium sand haha)

Painted aquarium gravel?

??

haha I'm probably overthinking it but I've seen some very specific instructions and I don't want to murder these ones and have to order more from Germany...

I hatched in a Tupperware container, straight distilled water. I'm pretty sure Allie uses spring water. Mine will be moved into a 3 gallon. 10 gallon heated should be fine for hatching, you just will have to look really hard for babies. They can't have distilled water once grown, I've read, because its too pure.

I bought normal aquarium sand. That said, I didn't hatch them with sand. Just a plain Tupperware. I mean, they live in puddles... But I wouldn't hatch with normal sand but I am paranoid. LOL
