Trick of the Week: Cross your paws

Welcome to week 5 of Trick of the Week! This week's trick is cross your paws! Another good one to teach with targeting, luring or shaping. Good way to teach front paw awareness? I really don't have a good reason to teach this trick other than it's just stinkin cute!

Ready... Set... Go!!

Otherwise, Linds had a great idea for an alternative, a little paw dance thing, lifting alternative paws back and forth. It would be adorable!

We already do that, he matches my lifting my legs alternately, so we "march". It is one of my favorites that Frodo does.

What about a front leg hop? Like, both the legs and front/chest in unison hopping from one side to the other. If that makes any sense.

I don't know if he has enough energy for that, LMAO!

I will keep it on the backburner, but I don't give up easily, I want to try the leg cross!

LANCE is freaking adorable in that photo!

Bailey can do this trick but Buzz can't. Maybe I'll attempt to work on it?

I just finally caught up with Close the Door! Lol. These weeks go by so fast.

I'm really going to have to think about this. Zander doesn't know anything with his paws except shake.

I know Zinga struggles with this one... remaining in one spot and doing small movements is so not her thing. When we were training it for Trkman's puppy class, it was a joke. I got slammed into, scratched, bit, pounced on, everything happened except a freaking paw cross.

But! We are going to try it again!

That's why I'm happy we're doing this one. I haven't done it with Didgie or Traveler yet but I think NOT moving around a ton is going to be a challenge and good for them both. Make them stop and think a bit....hopefully.

Oh man, I remember the disaster it was the first time I tried to teach this one. :rofl1: BUT, so far she has impressed me with the other weeks, so maybe the trend will keep up!

Haha, glad to hear other people struggled with this, it makes me feel like less of a loser LOL. I tried it with Auggie before and it didn't go very well. I would almost put money on Payton the clicker-training over-achiever being able to learn this quickly though... I'm not sure if I will re-attempt with Auggie or not. If I do, prepare to see me wearing earplugs in my videos.

Rosey naturally crosses her legs when she lays down, so I guess I just captured it :p Kinda cheating.. LOL. I should find a video camera, it's really cute... we have it under the cue "be a lady"

This is pretty much what just happened to me.

Ow.

On the other hand, he has a pretty reliable "lay on your paws" that I don't understand at all. He's like a friggin cat, tucking his legs under himself.
