Not the Lemur...

This week's trick is back up! Fantastic for rear end awareness and for getting your dog into a specific spot. This can be done in heel position with you backing up with your dog or it can be an independent back up. You can shape, lure or target train this behavior.

If you are like me and already have back ups on your dogs, add distance, add speed, try it in a standing position, try it in heel position, try to have them back up through your legs, or back up towards you!

Ready.... Set.... Go!!!

Oh goodie - Payton and I started this one so I should be able to refine it some. I think this will be a good one for Pepper too.
I think I'll try back up in heel with Auggie though I bet that wouldn't be too difficult... backing up around my legs is a cute idea until he tries to kill me while doing it.

Yay! A reason to work on this more! Zane knows how to back up the stairs and back away from me. But he needs more versatility with this!

We are going to back up on everything. And he can't beat me up with this. Although I'm sure he'll find a way.

I'm so so so so far behind! I haven't taped Limit's paw crossing yet!

BUT, I did just add on to Kastle's back-up. Previously, he could back up beside me 5-6 paces, or between my legs about 8 paces, or facing me 2-3...decided to up the ante

Limit already has a good back-up but I had just started with Eden before we moved and then stopped. I will try to get her backing up on command now :)

P.S. I totally thought "why is she posting a thread about Backup?" haha

That is so cool, FG! I attempted "cross your paws" but Gwen just rolls over every time she gets frustrated. I don't know enough about training to jump in on this "trick of the week" train. : (

But I love seeing what all of the dogs can do. You guys manage to train your dogs things I never thought them capable of.

Yayyyyy! Frodo can do this...but it's not good at all. And it's usually just one step. Hopefully I can make it awesome!

I have to do some grocery shopping, then hopefully I can get a video this weekend. I can't promise anything since Jin is home, though. And I have to figure out how in the world I'm going to position the laptop on the stairs.

I started training this as a way to get him to realize he had back feet. And try and do a handstand with him. But. Well. Then Sit Pretty happened and now that is his favorite trick ever.

I'm going to try this with a twist since they both have the concept down. Either on the hind legs or facing away and backing into me.

Excited to try!

Apparently it isn't a trick of the week video unless I'm wearing frumpy pjs. :p

I need to work on fading out my huge waving arms, aheheh, but I'll need to do it in tiny baby steps - otherwise he either sits down, or sits down and then sits pretty so far back that he falls over. :/

I love seeing everyone's training cloths. Makes me feel better about what I wear around the house :D

He's doing really good! And he's keeping in a pretty straight line for just learning this, very impressed!

Well that's his best. Although they are the minority, there ARE times where I step on his back feet or trip over him because he wound his butt around behind me. :p

Here is our start to a backup through my legs! It's much more of a butt swing right now but for our first night working on it he's doing pretty good!
