Im going to Ireland on Friday(Woo!)We have a three hour journey on ferry and the option they give you with dog's is to either hand them over to the onboard kennels for 3 hours,or leave them in your car.
However the cars are not accessible during the time you are on the boat,so you can not see your dog either way.Im leaning towards the kennels as I'm hoping it will be a nicer enviroment?Less noise, more light some people? Also the car we are taking is a rented car and I can't afford for Coco to do any damage to the car while were away.
Any suggestions/experience's? If I do with the kennels is there anything I can do to get her used to the idea before hand?

I've never ridden a ferry that cuts off access to your car during the trip.

How hot will it be? If there's a chance it could get hot inside the car, I'd probably kennel her. If not, I'd feel safer leaving her in the car. If you're worried about her destroying it what about putting her in a crate while you're gone? (she's the little dog in your avatar, right?)

Personally I'd leave my dogs in the car because they would be very stressed if they were left in kennels. If you can I think crating her would be the best option.

Doubt it would be hot in the car cargo!Going from London to Ireland...most likely it would be cold!I can't bring a crate on our trip as there is not enough space in the car,so she would be loose in the car...which I don't like incase she got stuck in something?or got into one of the bags with food in.
Are kennels very distressing? She has been crated at home, and is used to being left alone in random places now(I mean by that she spends time alone in other people houses)

It depends on the kennel and the dog. My dogs would be stressed in a kennel enviroment and would prefer to be in the car but a lot of dogs go to kennels regularly with no problems. It all depends on the dog. At the end of the day you know your own dog and you have to do what you think best.

If I were you I would put her in the kennel. If you aren't sure you can 100% trust her not to destroy anything in the car it is just going to cost you a whole load more and it would spoil your holiday if something went wrong.

If you are almost 100% sure that she won't do anything aweful then I don't see a problem with the car. Personally my dogs know that my car is their car, and they enjoy riding in it and they can comfortably sleep in it and they would never destroy anything, and even if they did it is my car and not a big problem. I don't think your dog would see the car as a comfort zone as it is a rented car and not quite exactly a very familiar item unless you're travelling quite a distance in it before you get on the ferry?

Either way not being 100% sure about her destroying something in the car tells me she should go in a kennel.

id leave him in the car. But every ferry we have been on we have had access to the car and him.

Id probably opt for the kennel. thus I know he is safer in there, then left loose alone for 3 hours in a car.
