Today I had a lady call me that is going to be coming to the event we are holding. She says she has toy australian shepherds. Has anyone every heard of these before?

Hmmm maybe it was miniature austrailian shepherd that she said then. For some reason I was thinking toy. I could have been wrong.

Ya, I've heard of them before. Not very ethical to be honest, is she breeds them she is a BYB.

Toy Aussies are crossed with Poms and Chihuahuas. Easily noticeable in their domed heads. Though of course, a breeder will deny that up and down.

they are not mini's, they are even smaller as in TOY,,and yes I've heard they use chi's, poms to get that size ..

I do have a friend with a toy, and have to say she is the only one I've ever seen that resembles an aussie , tho I wouldn't want one..

I've met a couple of mini and toy "Aussies"...the toys look like docked Pom mixes and do not resemble ANYTHING an Aussie is supposed to be. I've met ONE Mini Aussie that even remotely looks and acts like an Aussie, but like with all downsizing, temperment and brains suffer.

I actually met the first mini-aussie I liked at the agility trial this past weekend. He looked so much like a normal aussie, that I couldn't pick him out while going through the pictures from the site! The others I've me (only a few) were very bizarre looking.

Regardless of "breeding true" or not, they need to come up with a different name. A Pom'Aussie is not an Aussie and should not be named as such. Same with the Mini's...though there is a movement to rename them the "North American Miniature Shepherd".

I know someone with a very gorgeous 'mini aussie' though she prefers North American Miniature Shepherd for the name. The dog looks exactly like an Aussie only 14". That's the only mini aussie I've ever seen that looked like an Aussie to me. the toys always look like they're part pom or sheltie...
