Actually I'm pretty relieved to hear you say this, because my impression has largely been that once you have a baby you just turn into a blob of baby-related things, hate your dogs, and don't do anything but watch Dora the Explorer and talk about baby accessories. :lol-sign: It's really rather off-putting. I'm glad to hear you can be a person with your own identity AND enjoy your kid. Like, seriously.

ETA: I hope this wasn't offensive to parents, I didn't really mean anybody here but how the general populace makes parenthood sound, rather. I'm inspired by those on Chaz who balance their dogs, kids, and hobbies, is what I'm saying.
Add me to the list of people who like your stance Taq. ;) I had one friend tell me a few days ago that she is pretty sure I won't be "one of those people" who forget about their dogs when they have a kid and become all baby all the time. I thought that was a pretty cool compliment. You rock! :)

Me too, Taq.

I've been so anti-kids (in my own life), because I like my life how it is. I love my career, love my hobbies, and I have fantastic child-less friends who I spend time with. I don't want to give that up like everyone tells me is inevitable. It's reassuring to hear that you haven't.

If I start watching Dora the Explorer PLEASE stage an intervention. :lol-sign: Honestly, I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one that wants a life outside of my kid. There's a lot of weird parenting/pregnancy guilt that goes on and there's a definite "I'm better than you" vibe from people that only do kid things.

Don't get me wrong, it's definitely more difficult to do things now. But me and Mu have been in class since Falon was 6 weeks and I'm just waiting for an agility class to open (I seriously can't wait, I want to work my dog).

This may be because I have an admittedly awesome baby who made things easy for me but...I can't imagine not liking my dogs anymore. They saved my sanity when I was on leave. Babies don't even headtilt when you talk to them. :lol-sign: And getting outside to play fetch or do quick training sessions really helped my mood when I was alone with a baby for 9+ hours a day.

I think rather that it sets a great example for parents to have their own passions, especially if they involve the kids!

My 18th birthday is less than a week away and nobody besides Rick seems to care. It's really injuring my feelers. :(

The vet thinks it may have been a pustule that receded. Her concern is that Shamoos heart rate is 60 while excited, the plus is there appears to be no missing message between the heartbeat and the thigh pulse point but I'm to watch for exercise induce exhaustion and consider an EKG an meds. Either way she won't have a ton longer. I said we were hoping for a year and she smiled and said maybe. Im trying very hard to look on the bright side but I'm really scared. This heat wave and us leaving for 10 days in 10 days is wrecking havoc with my paranoia.

I don't know, seriously, I am trying to do research on this all. I don't know the cost, outcome or anything.

I mean she seems fine. She's slowed down but she's happy. She still walks probably 4 miles in the morning and 2 in the afternoon once a week on fridays. The rest of the week she just hangs out.

I wish I knew. The vet didn't seem to think it was needed unless she seems to collapse due to exercise.

She has seemed to slow down in the last few months and I bet this is connected.

:( Shamoo is to live forever. I hope she proves her wrong and sticks it out for another year.

We finally, FINALLY have got a fence up around the whole yard. So naturally the dogs set about trying to find the best way out. 4/6 dogs can wriggle through the lower bars. I knew Scamp would be able too but I was hoping it would hold everyone else. Time to start putting chicken wire up!

And just to make tonight suck, Fudge and Scamp had a big fight over nothing. Just what I needed.
