This really needs to be a sticky.

I am finally okay with the Navy thing thought still a bit nervous. I have Close to 30 apps in to places but since I can only work nights and weekends its making it harder to get hired. I want desperately to go back to school but what I want to go into isnt financially smart, so I have no idea what to major in....oh and it has to be online make it all the more easy (sarcasm)

My idiot brother in law got in a motorcycle wreck. And he's an idiot because he's always been an idiot.

That's not what I'm venting about, I'm venting about HIS stupid brother. The one I married. OMFG GOD how hard is it to check closing times before you LEAVE MY EFFING JEEP at a parking lot?! AND NOW the bitch is locked in, and *I'M* stuck at home because YOU decided today you needed to put your car in the shop and it's okay because we'll have the Jeep and we're not really going anywhere.

ARGHPQHQHQHBFPOKDVD

AND THEN you don't properly wake me up from a nap?! You just leave and tell me nothing, so I think when I DO wake up from my nap that you're in class and coming home, so the fact that there's nothing whatsoever to eat or drink in the house isn't going to be an issue. BUT NO. YOU GET MY JEEP STUCK. *I'VE* never even got my Jeep stuck!

Ugh.

How could someone SO special, kind, wise, beautiful, and learned not be missed or cared about?? In all her life was there not anyone that could have liked or appreciated her or made her feel not so alone?

Sometimes learning to be alone and self-contained is the only way there is. Not what anyone wants to hear, but it's true.

GYN appointment tomorrow. Not entirely sure how to feel about it. In one way, I'm really hoping all my issues will finally go away. In another, I'm super nervous they won't listen, they'll judge because I'm married and sexually active at 20(all those disapproving looks drs always give me), they'll not bother to give me anything for this **** UTI I've been dealing with for over a month now, and they won't give me what I want/need for all these different issues relating to cystic ovaries, crazy hormones, and the birth control making me more crazy. Oh, and the LAST pap I had hurt like hell. Not looking forward to that again.

And I made the mistake of looking up reviews for the Dr. they gave me. They aren't good, and that doesn't really make me feel any better. And obviously DH isn't going. So that's supportive.

And, just generally I'm venting about being nervous and antsy and wanting to get it done and over with.

Just know Lyzelle, that YOU are paying THEM and if they do something you don't like or don't listen, you can walk out and find a dr. who WILL listen. Lots of relaxation and smooth visit vibes nonetheless!

Ugh. I have a friend and she and her fiance decided that they wanted to add a dog. She has never had ANY experience with dogs. He has a childhood Aussie that lives with his parents because the dog doesn't get along very well with her two year old son.

She asked me for my help because of how great Harlow is with her son and in general. I agreed. They decided on Boxer, which I don't think is a great fit for them, but they are dead set on it, because he likes herding a sporting breeds and she likes Sibes. Apparently Boxer was a middle ground? So, she informs me of this and sends me a bunch of Kijiji links to brindle pups. I nicely inform her of finding a Reputable breeder and spend literally a whole day going through Boxer breeders in the midwest with her. Today she sends me a bunch of pictures from a litter that her fiances friend from high school bred. Sigh.

I have a feeling they are going to end up dumping the dog off at 9 months old. At least my next Boxer will be brindle... Bummer he probably won't live past 4.

I hate lying.
but I find myself lying to my extended family about future puppy..

Look some back story, I am from the kind of family where we believe that one person is the AMBASSADOR for a certain thing. Could be their job, career, hobby, interest.. they just know a lot and everyone in the family listens to them.
and when I say everyone.. I mean like..my big fat greek wedding. We are HUGE, and over-bearing, and loud, and loving, and well meaning.. but huge. Aunts, uncles, great aunts, grand parents, cousins, cousins, cousins, cousins..

Example: One of my cousins is the "car guy". Hes into cars/engineering and is called EVERY TIME ANYONE in our family is looking to get a new car.
Last year, he declared volvo and audis were great choices..
lo and behold..every one in my VERY LARGE family now has a volvo or an audi. Voila. Didn't have to explain why.. we all love him and trust him..soo.. audis and volvos.

I'm basically the dog person.. I get calls from family about dog health issues, food, breeds, collars, behavior..just about EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING.
I feed better food, talk to them, all the family dogs are now on grain free dog foods.
I do limited vaccines..so do they.
RMBs occasionally to help teeth.
No question. They assume I know best lol and they do LOVE their dogs so they just..do.

The thing is, we are all from Haiti. And well, let me say when it comes to dogs, it's a different mindset. My family has come FAR..dogs are loved parts of the family, walked (instead of just let out into yards), trained positively, etc.. but the ideas of dogs as a WHOLE (as in, where to get them..) there is a lot more to go.

but the idea of responsible breeders goes right over their heads. Explaining finding a breeder, going through an interview, home check, waiting list, puppy price etc..etc..etc.. for a puppy. DOES. NOT. COMPUTE. The whole idea of it seems ridiculous/intrusive to them..it's like hitting a brick wall.
So for years, I have pushed the simple mantra of "Adopt." and it has worked VERY well. I give them a few breeds I think would work..puppy tips..good shelters to visit.. what to look for/avoid.. told them the truth on shelter dog myths (that they aren't broken, damaged, unhealthy etc..) ..and voila. Happy households. Dogs are saved. Happy families. EVERYONE in my family has started pushing adopting dogs instead of supporting BYBs to their friends. Talking about how great their shelter dogs are, how low adoption fees are and how much their dogs are worth it, how beautiful/healthy their mix is etc.. and it's so nice to see.
20 years ago. It was the NORM in this family to get your puppy at a pet-shop or from a BYB in the newspaper. Now it's the norm to go to a shelter.

The thing is.. it's kind of a "lead by example" kind of thing.
So this afternoon one of my aunts called and was like "Oh we heard you are buying a dog from a breeder! Are dogs from breeders better? Because my daughter found this great place online to get them!"

..so I lied.
I told her I was getting my puppy from a shelter.

and she and her daughter both were just like "Oh! That's what I thought! You did say shelter puppies were better! We will go to the shelter!"
and now they are rescuing this sweet lab mix. Which will work GREAT for them.. instead of this awful "click now to order" gsd breeder they found online.

and I feel like venting because it is lying.
but I'm also like..what is the harm? You know?
They are just looking for good family pets which are more then fulfilled by shelter dogs.. and if I can't go all the way and get them to go to responsible breeders (which I know FOR A FACT THEY WILL NOT) ..then why not just lead them towards the most responsible option?

My mom basically is like "Lie. You know that if you tell them you are buying a dog..they will all buy a dog for their next dog and they won't find good places to do so"
They all already think Romeo is from a shelter anyway. But that was more of a lie of omission. I got him as an adult so they just..assumed.
They were all.. "Oh Romeo is so beautiful and well trained and sweet! It's not true what they say about shelter dogs, look at him! he is lovely!"
so I smile and said nothing.

PROS? More people adopting. Needy dogs get homes. Happy families. No supporting bad breeders.

CONS? Fran is a liar liar pants on fire and this was your vent.

Fran, you are an amazing person (thank you iPhone, that nearly said amazon person...) - needy dogs are getting homes & your family members are being great ambassadors for shelter dogs :) this is one of those times when lying actually BENEFITS everyone...

Aww poor Fran. You're basically between a rock and a hard place, and I think you're taking the best option there. It does feel shitty though and it sucks to have to keep it up.

Hope it eases up soon Renee, is it joints? would Glucosamine help?

And what you said earlier - yes indeed. Life is cruel as it is - but alot more so on certain people I find...for what reasons I can't fathom...

I think I've just managed to get something out of place a bit. I suspect it may be connected to my work chair and where it hits the back of my leg. Sitting in it really aggravated it today until I stuck a small pillow under the back of my legs. I need to get my old drafting desk set up to work on.

Renee I hope you feel better :(

I'm tired of all the nonsense at this new place... First its spiders, then its wild snakes inside slithering around and then its ants in and around my bed. What's next? I can't go one night without something happening it seems. Oh and the mud is getting ridiculous. There's so much mud right outside the entrance to the basement where we are living. Do you know how difficult it is to try and wipe the mud off of three squirmy sets of dog paws? Then Joey decides to leap right onto my bed with his muddy paws... Oy vey.

I'm also super frustrated with work. One of clients (her dog isn't there often) is going to complain about me to my boss apparently. She said she saw me choking out a dog. Wtf? What she saw was me putting a slip lead on a dog. His ear got caught in the slider tab on the slip lead so I was trying to get his poor ear unstuck and he was being squirmy. Apparently what she saw through the window looked to her like choking even though that's not at all what was happening. :( so now I'm probably going to get in trouble at work for something that I didn't actually do.

If your boss is a reasonable person, she will talk to you about it first, without jumping to conclusions and taking the words of somebody else as law. Who does your boss know better - you or this client? Who's words should she put more trust in?
(((HUGS))) and I hope your boss is sane about it. Mine unfortunately is not, but that's why I'm getting the hell out of here. I didn't post about it here because I was so upset, but several months ago, I got written up because a listener flat out lied to him - and rather than actually asking me who has been here FIVE YEARS what happened and listening to both sides of the story, he just handed me a written warning and told me next time he hears any complaints I'm fired on the spot. Because, you know, customers NEVER lie.

I have been so busy this week, I haven't made more of my breakfast egg muffins to bring to work. This morning I was out of options and I saw a box of Toaster Struedel in the freezer, and in desperation I grabbed one to eat.
I've given up processed foods, cut out most grains, and the sugar I eat is by and large from natural sources like fruit or sometimes honey... I ate one Toaster Struedel - processed, grainy, and sugary - and I can FEEL the difference. Holy crap. I feel terrible. Ugh.

I hope that your boss will listen to your side of the story- I'm sure she knows you would never hurt a dog. Didn't you just get a really good raise recently? I'm sure you won't get in trouble over this!
