All my friends at the gym are like super-duper-smart. I mean, I know a lot of people from the university are at the gym, so it makes sense, but wow.
One is all like "Yeah I'm working on my thesis, the only time I give myself a break is when I go to the gym."
And another is like "Yeah me and my fiance are both finishing up our PhD's this spring."

And I'm over here like "Ummmm so yeah my goal is to squat my own body weight."

ETA: I KNOW! I should start telling them "Yeah I'm working on my book."
except then they'll ask me what it's about.
"Oh it's about... dogs..."
Never mind that's a terrible idea.

My doctor is in a car commercial. Although I like him as a doctor, it is a bit disconcerting

Wow. Thankful for things working out the way they did. The company I almost worked for just laid off a ton of employees. Glad I ended up where I am. Hope the people I know still have jobs...

I know not everyone is religious but I still feel like it is worth sharing.

A friend I didn't know too well invited me to her bible study. I had no excuse so I went and the lessons have been absolutely perfect. It is amazing to me how well the study relates to where I am. The lady was writing it when her mom passed away. I mean just SO familiar, it is amazing.

My friend/acquaintance gave out little bookmarks to everyone and mine was one with a butterfly and a saying about not giving up hope. The PERFECT thing I needed to hear after last week. And a butterfly? My mom's favorite animal, her favorite dog breed, and the type of tumor that ended her life (butterfly glioma).

I know... lots of inspirational things have butterflies on them, but it happens every now and then that I get handed something perfect with a butterfly on it. The last card she ever sent to me was butterflies. The only gift my parents got on their honeymoon was a mounted butterfly.

I still haven't ever fallen off a horse, despite Redman's best efforts today ;)

We started off in the inside area, then we split into two groups and my group went out to the open field. It's mowed and has a plowed path, so it's not that "scary." Redman usually gets to the arena door and goes "NOPE." and either refuses to go out, or goes crazy and tries to kill whoever's closest to him (and that's only a mild exaggeration). Today, he went out just fine without a fit (he also walked up to me in pasture instead of having to go catch him).

We were outside for a while, I walked him a bit then got him going in a nice running walk. He was doing SO WELL, I was really surprised. He's very, VERY spooky horse, and even in the indoor area he'll usually spook several times at "nothing."

Right about halfway through the ride, a bunch of wild turkeys approach to raid a bird feeder. This horse is blind on the side the turkeys are on, so we passed them okay...but then he must have seen a glimpse of them with the other eye because he was suddently NOT OK. He spun several times (we should teach him reining lol) and just got worked up in general. So the instructor said it might be a good idea to take him to the outdoor area, away from the turkeys, so I headed out. He was going along fine, but when we got to the area gate and the other instructor opened he, he decided "NOPE, NOT DOING IT!" and BOLTED all the way back to the indoor area when I had saddled him up. I got smacked with branches and pretty much held on for dear life because there's no stopping this horse once he gets going. He calmed down once he was inside, and instructor #3 showed up shortly to make sure we were still alive. She led us out to the outdoor area, and he settled down and worked well for a bit, then decided he'd had enough and tried to kill instructor #2 by bolting right at her. Fortunately she caught him by the halter and we got him to settle, and we decided that was enough for one night ;)

And I actually sort of enjoyed it. I like dealing with the "problem" horses and the fact that he did SO WELL until the turkeys came along made me super happy. And I didn't die or even fall off, so that's a plus ;)

Woooooo, you can do it!!! I'm obsessive about squats - mostly because it was the first move I could do well and correctly lol

I just PR'd my back squat on Monday (I'm 135 right now (I gained 5 lbs from CrossFit!) and can do 145 for my 3 RM).

My goal is to be able to do real pull ups...and someday I want to be able to do a muscle up! My upper body is deplorably weak...and I have tendonitis in my right elbow and it's slowing me down!

Nice!! 145 is my goal. (My actual weight varies a lot but I think it's safe to call it 145.) I'll probably go from there, I just want to feel badass and tell people "Oh yeah I can squat my own body weight." hahaha.
Squats are my fave move too because, well, they're awesome. I went to a BodyStep class once a few weeks ago, I don't usually go because it makes me feel REALLY uncoordinated. It's cardio on a step, kicks, lunges, BUT - and I didn't know this - there's a SQUAT TRACK. And we got to the squat track and the instructor is like "This is the squat track!" and I was like "OH THANK GOD, SQUATS, I CAN DO THIS."
Only a crazy person says "OH THANK GOD, SQUATS."

I bought a pull up bar, one of those over-the-door ones too work on my pull ups at home. But I got distracted and ended up doing something else and haven't put it back on the door in a while. I don't get why a pull up is so hard because I can lift things OVER my head... but I guess that's just entirely different. You would think having strong shoulders would be a part of a pull up. I guess it's only part and not enough, haha. I can only do negatives... ugh.

Asked about fundraising ideas for a local dog group.
I've got a GREAT idea... and am about to end up volunteering to do the work to set it up for them...
Because marketing.

I don't really have time for this.

I'm going to end up roped into doing it.

Psychological projection

Psychological projection was conceptualized by Sigmund Freud in the 1890s as a defense mechanism in which a person unconsciously rejects his or her own unacceptable attributes by ascribing them to objects or persons in the outside world. For example, a person who is rude may accuse other people of being rude.

I see this a lot on the internets :) musing musing musing.

Indeed.

However, Freud was a quack.

Really cool. I'm glad that you've found a place to get involved and that things are so meaningful to you. That's really special.

Isn't it amazing when God shows his hand in such a meaningful and powerful, personal way?!

So glad you found a bible study group that you can identify with and feels so personal to you :)

Just saw an ad on craigslist for a "dwarf hippo". It was a very cute Skinny Pig. :D Totally never thought of them as looking like dwarf hippos, but...I can see it! Hahaha

I'm not sure who I have a bigger crush on from BSG:

Apollo or Starbuck.

Although Starbuck's really more my type. Blonde. Picks fights. Starts brawls. Makes stupid, reckless decisions. Is an asshole for no apparent reason. Problem(s) with authority. Love it.

I'm on my third year of college...averaging 9-12, mostly 12 credits per semester.

I'm actually quite pleased at where my student loans are at right now. I will have debt but nothing overwhelming. I'd probably be doing better if I put my taxes or paid a little towards it each month, but it's still not bad.

I'm pet sitting at someone's house... And the other sitter hasn't brought the dog back yet. Nor has she called me.

ETA, got ahold of her, since she couldn't be bothered. She's keeping the dog with her... So I am out $100. Awesome. That makes $400 worth of work cancelled this week.
