The dog musing/vent thread

Ok, if I pull my dog off to the side of the trail (which is pretty large) and have him sit and put my body in between him and your two very large dogs, that probably means I don't want to let them meet. 
Went for a trail run with only Art, glad we didn't take Talon! It was like idiot day. NO one freaking said "on your left" or the like when coming up from behind us. This is especially annoying when the biker is going a million miles per hour and has a quiet bike. Art is fine, but darn does that make me jump!
Than Art was having an issue barking at the dogs again, so on the 4 mile walk back to our car after our 4 mile run, we took some crackers I happened to have (lol) and had him sit on the opposite side of the trail and wait as a dog would walk by. Art's not aggressive, but I think since he hasn't seen many dogs, especially this many at once, he got a bit overwehelmed so would bark his fool head off when we got close to the other dogs.
So it went well, Art sat quietly watching people and dogs walk by. UNtil, a lady walking two large dogs with a guy pushing a stroller starts coming up. We do the same thing, put Art off the side of the trail and have him sit. I hear the lady going "oh guys, no that dogs too small for you. No, no, you can't say hi, uh-uh don't even think about it it's way too small for you guys youd crush it" etc as she's walking up. So I'm thinking "great, she'll leave us along." I appreciate when people just walk by keeping thier dogs away if we are obviously not wanting to be approached.
HOwever, that's not how it went. Despite her continuous protests she lets her dog rush right up, one jumps right on davids back pushing him over and almost down the sharp rocky decline into a creek type area. The other run get's right in Arts face and leaps for it trying to take off his nose! :yikes: Does this lady apologize? NO, she continues walking talking to her dogs saying "oh well that wasn't nice, why would you do that" etc. WTF!?
If you don't want your dogs all over someone/something and they are on leash, just keep them a bit closer! The trail is about 6 ft wide if not a bit more, all she had to do was be on the other side, like she was originally, and it woul dhave been fine.
I just don't get people sometimes. If we would've had Talon it could've set us back BIG time! argh

The dude got BOS puppy at the asca show yesterday.
I just have to gush a bit about my weekend with the dogs. I went out to my demo team's practice on Saturday night. We've got a big show coming up in April at All About Pets, so we wanted to freshen up, try some new stuff and just go over what we'll need to know for the event. My team members are some of the most talented dog trainers I know, so we were able to pick each other's brains about how to do certain tricks, etc. Plus they're just all around great people whom I'd not seen in a few months, so it was just a great get together.
I was so pleased with how well the dogs did! I've been a bit worried about Cohen's endurance after this harsh winter has pretty much holed us up in our house for the last 4 months straight, and these shows take a lot out of her (since she's my only sport dog, I tend to use her for everything -- other people have 2-4+ dogs to use to spread out some of the workload). But she did amazingly. Agility? Check. Flyball? We've not done flyball in months, and this was the first time doing it in this room with this group of dogs, but check! Obedience? Despite it being late in the evening and she'd just spent the last while running around, she was still up and good to go. Check. I was able to put her in a down-stay at the other end of the 120' hall to move equipment with other dogs running around and she held it like a champ. I had a friend who's been doing these demos forever (and has half a dozen OTChs to her name) compliment Cohen for being "calm" and told me what a nice dog she was -- Cohen wasn't exactly calm, but she was definitely controlled but ready to spring into action. She's such a cool dog to do demos with.
At the end of the night we were given the opportunity to perform our freestyle. I figured Cohen would be dead tired, and our freestyle has some pretty taxing moves for her. But, again, success! She nailed her foot rebounds at the end! Then the party broke up and people started to leave and a friend who does a lot of disc borrowed Cohen to work her a bit. She was flipping, running and catching beautifully. Finally, we ended the night with a play session with an intact male BC and Cohen got to flirt to her heart's content.
Mega didn't get a chance to come out and play, but she coped really well with the loud, barking dogs and busy atmosphere. She sometimes shuts down when things get too noisy.
Both dogs slept deeply on the drive home. It was a good night. :3
Entered the Skinnies in our first UKC show. Let an agility friend show Ezra all four shows, she had more fun than I think she thought she would! They did well together, though we had the only Whippets.
Mimi ended up with a group 3, two group 2s, and a group 1 followed by a BIS! Not too shabby for a UKC debut. Plus, I'd be lying if I said I didn't kind of like the big pretty rosette that came with BIS. Mimi had a blast because hotdogs. Hopefully she'll remember how much fun it was next month when I take her to the Whippet National!
