I am currently working on something inside my head before I transfer it to canvas. Since I generally paint better than I can draw, I do most of my prework inside my head. For some reason I am able to catch things better with a paintbrush than a pencil. But if it's okay, i"d like to join this thread and post here what scribbles I can do with my ideas.

You guys gave me the bug to take up drawing again. I've really liked everyones pics so far. These are 2 of the dudes in my avatar (Koko, the third one disappeared last year :( ). They sleep so much they are very willing models, just maybe dull subjects after a while.

mojozen..i too chew on things in the back of my head for along time before they get to paper..but i draw wayyyy better then i paint. I had a man at the art institute that could paint better then he drew..i will have to dig up the portrait he did of me. I couldn't imagine being the opposite way that i am. I didn't start truly painting until after i left school..the few paintings i did there were my first ones..and one was good but the others reeked of beginner (something u do not want to reek of at art school when you are up against students that have had privat lessons since they were three..i kid you not) can't wait to see anything u wish to share...my teacher kate Russell once said a school is not an empty vase waiting to be filled but a group of minds all growing in a similar direction. Common qoute but true. This is turning out to be a very very good thread.

PSAT: That's what I did. I tried scanning and it turned out horribly. The scanner is almost 12 years old though.

Examples of my art - boxes

Well i haven't taken any art classes since i was in the 5th grade. I didn't start doing anything art like until 2002. Generally I paint and decorate boxes to give to people so that might be why i paint better than draw.

I dont necessarily paint WELL, but I am getting better about getting general shapes down - my painting of Mojo (seen in this thread) is still quite flawed but it is my first canvas ever... so i believe it to be something to be proud of.

If you want to see some of the boxes i've done you can look at these pics:
    Crane Box - Outside - 2004
    Crane Box - Inside - 2004

Hummingbird Box - Outside Lid - 2004 (mostly decoupage)
Hummingbird Box - Inside Lid - 2004 (mostly decoupage)
Hummingbird Box - Inside Box - 2004 (mostly decoupage)

I do about 2 or 3 labor intensive boxes a year. They can take about 2 months to plan and a month to a month and a half to decorate. They take this long because I can only work on them when I can find spare time where I am alone once in a while.

Anyway, I just wanted to share and I hope no one minds. :)

i hope Sheow sees your monkey!!!! you eyes are getting better each time..especially the one in the middle. Your portraits are on the right track too. My friend Kelly and her daughter are sketching each other each night and i am simply amazed at the progress even a couple days can make..they are having fun too which is the number one point of it all.

You mean before prison? Just kidding...BFA from Academy of Art College in SF, freelance illustrated for a while with Bernstein&Andriulli reps in NYC, taught drawing and painting classes while painting portraits...been at it for about 15 years. Do I get the job? Wait, what is the job? ;)
