I have been thinking about this off and on for the past couple of weeks. Of course, raising and training a puppy is not a piece of cake by any means. Nor do I expect that everyone will have the same list of "best things." I just wanted to share a few of my personal favorites. :)

So here we are:
The best things about raising a puppy

1) The moment when the new trick or behavior sinks in and he understands for the first time.

2) The day he finally began to wait by the door to be let outside to potty.

3) Teething. I don't know why, but I've been loving it. I have been saving his puppy teeth as he loses them. He has also learned to beg by the freezer for an ice cube when his mouth is especially sore.

4) The way he follows me everywhere in the house. If he gets separated, he'll come looking for me.

5) He looks to me for approval all of the time, especially on walks. I just melt every time I see those eyes asking me, "Am I doing it right? Am I? Am I?"

6) The way he will stand by the back door with a toy in his mouth when he wants to play outside.

7) Today I bought him a new toy (a Cuz). He was so thrilled when I gave it to him! He immediately started rolling it around, pawing and chewing on it, but after only a minute or two he stopped to give me a long look with his big dopey grin.
I swear he was saying, "Thanks Mom! I love it!"

8) How he will put himself to bed if he's tired.

9) The way he carries his loofa dog around the house by one ear, like a little kid would with a favorite toy.

10) When we tell him to "be nice" to the cats, he will reach out and lick them on the face.

11) The way he comes running when I call his name, and then will spin around to sit leaning against my legs and look up with that look of pure adoration.

12) He has already learned to beg for belly rubs, and he is not ashamed to ask. :p

13) Watching him grow. It may be cliche, but he has come a long way from the 7lb, 9-week old baby that he was when we adopted him nearly four months ago.

I feel like a had many more examples earlier, but this is all I can come up with now that I've started typing. :)

I love my puppy.

Oooo! I just remembered another one!

14) When he curls up in my lap and falls asleep, it is one of the most precious moments I've ever experienced! :D

Okay... I'm done now. I swear. :p

Okay, I don't know if I'll repeat any that you've mentioned. Those are all great, BTW!!!

I also like it that every time you come home, they are SO happy to see you! And it seems this never wears off as they get older. It doesn't matter if I'm gone 5 minutes, or 5 hours, the reaction is the same.

Watching them stumble around over their feet sometimes. They're so cute! Almost like a toddler still learning to use their legs or something.

I also like it when they do something for the first time, and they surprise themselves. Like watching them finally jump up on the couch after trying each day and missing, falling down and looking at the couch like it's evil or something.

Okay, I think that's all I can add to your list!!!

Those are great, too! I can't believe I didn't think of the bit about stumbling on puppy legs. Morgan is notorious for having NO clue where his feet are in relation to his body. :p

Aww this brings back such wonderful Regis puppy memories <3

Watching him slowly adjust to his little legs legs. Watching him for the first time being able to nearly catch up with the other dogs at the park, rather than being left behind.

When he dicoved himself in the mirror. He would sneak a look at himself whenever he got the chance, barking at softly, waggin' his tail. Or sometimes I'd catch him sitting in front of the mirror just staring!

Oh!!! How on Earth could I forget about mirrors?
The first time Oliver saw himself in a mirror, I had just gotten a new one and it was leaning against the wall, sitting on the floor. He kept himself busy forever looking in the mirror, ears perked up, wagging his tail, then he'd look behind the end of the mirror to see if he could find the doggie hiding behind it. Then he's look in the mirror again, and go to the other end of the mirror and look behind it. It was great! He still gets all excited if he catches himself in a mirror, and he'll go sniffing and looking for the dog that's looking at him. It's great! I love watching him do that!

Another thing he does is when he catches his reflection in a window, especially at night, he gets startled and barks at himself...lol...

Shadows. . . Molly is very intrigued by shadows. Whether it is the flood light on the back porch at night or the rising sun in the morning she loves to chase, bark at, pounce upon, and lunge for shadows.
