I'm a social worker. I work with children in foster care. I will see cases through court, write assessments on parents and make decisions about whether children should return home or not. I support kids in care, visit them in their placements, chair meetings with other professionals (schools, health, whoever), sort out contact with parents or family. Anything that needs arranging I sort.

I enjoy it :) I have worked in child protection, and its very stressful. I cover a rural area now so its generally less stressful all round. I like that I'm often out and about, and I enjoy writing thorough and fair assessments, and know I've covered all bases. I like building up good working relationships with parents, professionals and of course kids. You get to ask questions no one would ever dare, and have to stick to your guns to get the right outcome for the kids. They need someone to fight for them. Even if you have to make decisions they don't like or understand sometimes....

Cons. Most people hate us! It can be intense.

I have always admired social workers. Yall go through a lot and deal with so much. I personally could not be a SW because if I saw a kid going through hell or being abused, I'd end up taking him/her home lol

We become quite desensitized to things... Drug abuse, neglect, emotional abuse etc are our day to day bread and butter. I try and stay open minded and unbiased, but its hard.

Oh, I also see children through to being adopted. That's a mixed bag of emotions. Happy sad. Parents lose their rights. No matter how awful they are, it still feels bad. Happy when the kids are placed in loving homes though.

Company name - I won't give that out, but its a national insurance company.
Position - Technical name...Senior Business Claims Analyst
Duties - I review our Medicare and provider dispute cases before they are sent to the independent review entity.
My coworkers - are scattered across the country and I've only met one of them face I face. They make me laugh and make the day go by quicker.

Pros - well the first time I went to school I was going to be a writer, second time an English teacher...now I get to edit things for grammar and boost cases up when the structure is weak. It's the ultimate job for me with a healthcare twist.
Cons - I'm now reviewing my old coworkers things and its building a rift between myself and them. It's hard for them to distinguish between me (and the person they have come to know) and my new job.

Favorite thing - Don't have one yet. Just started...but if I have to put something - it's that I'm no longer being micro managed, I can work 45 - 50 hours a week (instead of 50+) and that I will eventually get to work at home.

Company's Name: Breier Barrel Horses

Your position: Farm Hand

Your duty/s: Groom horses, feed horses (2x/day), hay & water horses, pick/strip stalls, clean pastures & water troffs, use the tractor and ranger for odd and end duties, take care of the 7 barn cats, and let the boss' 7 dogs out for potty breaks and groom them, and do everything else but train barrel horses.

Your co-workers: Aside from me, my boss is the only one that works with me. He does all the barrel horse training, and I do everything else.

Pros: Pretty much everything.
Cons: I HATE cleaning water troffs lol Oh and the cow because he charged me a few days ago and caused me to Chuck Norris over the fence and I rolled my ankle twice. He really does not like me, I feel the same about him lol.

Favorite thing about your job: The connection I get with the horses and also the friendships I see among horses.

Anything else you want to discuss about it: Lets see we have 38 horses, I believe.
3 studs - Gold Boy, Buck (he is CRAZY), and Mister
8 babies - Smash (my fav.), Jagger, Spiderman, Belle, Flicka, and I don't know the others names right now
8 geldings - Hot Shot, Bully, Wrangler, Tahoe, Rufus, Joey, Freckles, & Cruise.
19 mares - Etta, Draft, Candy, Martha (she is going to her new home today), Big Time, Sassy, Fancy, Chicka (dad's cow horse), Morgana, Peaches, Sunshine, Junette, Zen (Chicka's BFF), Jalo, Cheyenne, Sally (wild mustang), Angel, Sarah (a VERY pregnant mare. She isn't due until sometime in the first week of Feb. but I believe she will have her baby in the next 3 weeks), & Elite.
1 donkey - Jackson
1 very large male dairy cow - Bully
7 barn cats - Don't know there actual names but 2 stay at the main barn and I call them Mousey and Mufasa & both are short hair black/white, and 5 stay at the mare barn and there are 3 long hair black/whites, one long hair grey/white, and one short hair grey white.
7 dogs - a pit/mastiff mixed named Magnum, a Shiz Tzu named Samsung (only one that is not a rescue), a little bouncy thing named Gizmo, a pointer mix named Roxy, a BC mix named Bouncer (my favorite), a lab mix named Sheena, and a possible pointer mix named Lacie.

I believe that's it lol :D

Company's Name: Kiddie Kollege
Your position: Teachers Assistant
Your duty/s: I help out with everything. The teacher refers to me as co teacher and not assistant because other than make the lesson plans I do everything she does for the most part. We get the kids in in the morning and have small motor skill activities for them to do, then we take them for a potty break, we come back and they do circle time (read books, prayer time, pledge of allegience, calendar, weather, etc, etc) during that time I mostly get snack ready and on the tables. next, snack time and then they have free play time. We put out certain centers they can play in rather than just a free for all. it keeps things a little more manageable and it keeps from the toys getting boring or stale. During free play time we call over a few students at a time to do their craft (many of the kids are 3 and this is their first experience with structured things so it requires help and supervision from us). POtty time again, circle time for show and tell and then we head to kids town for physical activity. then they go home, we clean up, prepare for the next class and if there is anything to cut out or get ready I usually take that home with me.

Your co-workers- there is pretty much just myself and the teacher and then the boss lady but she's mostly in the office. They are both great. The teacher and I have a really good working relationship. We work well together and get along quite well. Our boss is AMAZING. She is the greatest person to work for. She sings our praises all the time, leaves us little pressies with our pay checks from time to time(candy bars, gift cards to McDonalds... just nice little gestures) and she is just genuinely the sweetest, kindest woman.

Pros: I get to play with kids for four hours twice a week, Hannah gets to come with me for FREE, I get paid, I enjoy it and the kids are sweet and cute and the parents appreciate us.

Cons: come full moon time... it can get CRAZY LOL. that's really the only con. Plus that one time I had to cut out a bunch of cat shapes in the center of the paper. that was pretty brutal HAHA

Favorite thing about your job: My most FAVORITE thing about my job is that Hannah gets to come along with me. I don't have anyone to take her during that time so if bringing her along wasn't a possibility then I wouldn't have the job at all :)

Company's Name: A very large department/everything store, it's the only one, small business
Your position: Assistant Manager of the Pet Department, Aquatics Manager
Your duty/s: Running pet store retail..everything to do with ordering fish and live animals, merchandising, stocking, paperwork, and so forth
Your co-workers: Definitely have their quirks and days I get really frustrated by lack of initiative...but they are mostly pretty good.

Pros..Eh, I get to do what I want, fix things how I want, order what I want for the most part. I get to travel to buying shows and I usually have fun at the job.
Cons.. Doesn't pay well, and well it's retail...heavy lifting and rude customers

Favorite thing about your job: The freedom to do what I want

Company's Name: Unnecessary.
Your position: I guess I could call myself an ISM/lather apprentice. It's not official, but it's what I do.
Your duties: Right now I work with primarily suspended ceiling, but have boarded, framed and done fire seal with them in the past.
Your co-workers: They're fantastic. This job site has gained me so many friends and I've met so many people from different walks of life. There are a couple assholes in the bunch, but so far everyone is awesome and welcoming to someone new in the trade.

Pros: Pays very well, you gain good skills, and opportunity to make a lot of dough. Enjoyable work place, laid back.
Cons: Construction is a man's world. You can't come in with a chip on your shoulder, nor expecting special treatment. I've gotten some pretty ridiculous and crude comments and you need to let it slide off like water off a ducks back. Also, it's hard work ... laborious. Lots of politics as well. Working a lot of hours, working 50+ hours a week is expected.

Favorite thing about your job: My co workers, for sure. Love them.

Tech support for apple.

Duties: fixing people's computers (software issues), helping customer use and understand their computers. Some sales, customers call in and want help deciding about a product and they can buy through us if they want too.

Fave things: coworkers. Its a really fun place to work. Customers, often are awesome and fun. Yesterday I was talking to a fellow in a submarine under the ocean near norway :)

Less fave things: I would like more money lol. That is about it, I surprisingly like this job quite a bit.

Company's Name: Global Pet Foods

Your position: Events & Marketing Manager, but I'm also a plain ol' store employee 25 hours each week.

Your duty/s: As manager, I coordinate and oversee 90% of our events and marketing (my boss does the other 10% as her education is in PR). I coordinate all fundraisers and most trade shows, and operate our blog and social media (FB/Twitter) for both of the locations my bosses own. My boss does most of the print media press releases and other direct media contact related to the stores.

As a store employee, I do a bit of everything at some point or another. Educate customers on pet nutrition, check off/put away/receive deliveries, merchandise the store, create displays, file credit reports, talk with distributors/sales reps, draw pretty signs when needed...

Your co-workers: Amazing. There are only four of us at my location and we run like well-oiled cogs most of the time, and even when we don't we laugh about it in the end. They're the best. My bosses are a husband & wife and they treat us like gold. Our Christmas party... well, I'll tell the tale sometime.

Pros: I work in a very tight pet community and a lot of customers have become friends. AlliePets coincides nicely with my work. I get to freely promote it and my bosses are open to cross-promoting opportunities anywhere we can. ! have some great cross-networking gigs coming up locally in the new year.

Cons: The only big one is that as much as I adore my job, the core of it is still retail. Thus, a lot of stocking, shelving, and we still get handfuls of annoying customers that leave us in a foul mood.

Favourite thing about your job: It's actually twofold:

1. Looking forward to going to work every day, and coming home satisfied with my work.
2. The opportunities it's beginning to open up for AlliePets, while still allowing me to maintain my job and title at the store.

Your co-workers : love them for the most part

Pros: can be down right dangerous.
Cons: l really care for my patients. Some Of them really really try and want help and I could never quit because I want to be there for them.

Favorite thing about your job: good groups

Anything else you want to discuss about it : pass your mental health levy next time!!!

Company's Name: A vet clinic
Your position: Vet tech (not certified though, so I suppose in other states I'd be a vet assistant)
Your duty/s: normal kennels/taking dogs out/clean cat cages, restraining pets for exams and blood draws, doing blood draws and lab work, taking histories from clients, xrays, anesthesia, and so on.
Your co-workers: are about the norm for coworkers :) Sometimes good, sometimes bad. Lots of junior high drama, though. Which can be irksome for those of us without our heads in jr high

Pros: Discounts on vet stuff
Cons: It can be a very wearing workplace. Not the job in general, I'm just too old for drama

Well, I've only had it two weeks, but I love it, so.

Position: Official title is Web Content Manager but I was introduced to somebody the other day as "our new marketing manager" which sounds so much fancier.
Duties: Keep growing every day as they discover all my talents and ways I can use them to help grow the business. In a basic sense, I am the in-house person for web content, graphics, and video. Designing and writing copy for our newsletters. I've been doing a lot of marketing research and brainstorming a lot of stuff, conference calls with other marketing folks to discuss the website and branding and that good stuff. Packaging is a task on our branding list and I'm super excited about working on that, I love packaging...
I am also there to be the backup to answer phones when the other guys are busy, and do a few other little office-y things, like I place some calls when we have questionable orders, or help them package orders if I've got nothing to do, and I'm also there to be the second if one of them is sick or on vacation.
Co-workers: Consist of a friend (and ex-radio co-worker)'s boyfriend who I already knew and get along great with and a second guy who is HIS friend and is in much the same vein, so we all get along great, spend our downtime talking about games and football and comic books and and and. There are two bosses, and the one has a super cool marketing background/past work history, I cannot wait to learn a bajillion things from him, and the other is a great guy who is more the business/numbers man and seems to already have a lot of respect for me (which is more than I can say for 90% of my past employers.)

Pros: Pretty much all that stuff I just said LOL.

Cons: The only real con is since I'm new and I am unfamiliar with what we sell and the technical aspects of it, I feel slightly like a fish out of water. I've got the basic gist of it but there are lots of details that will just take time, nothing else to be done about it really. Produce was much easier to learn and take orders on, haha. I suppose in an ideal world I wouldn't have to answer the phones at all, I would just be doing the creative stuff 100%.

Favorite thing about your job: The fact that every other day one of owners says to me "Hey do you know how to do this?" and I'm like "Yup." and he's like "Really?? So can you do this for us?!" and I'm like "Yup." Nearly every talent I have they are excited to take advantage of. This is world's apart from where I was sitting at the radio station, full of talents and practically begging people to take advantage of them, and hardly anybody took advantage of them. My creative talents are FINALLY being put to use in my "real job" again. And probably the best part, I'm working for people who are truly excited to have me working for them. I can't even find the words to explain what that feels like really. After working for a boss who did not respect me or value me as an employee, it's just... no words.

Job 1
Your position: Veterinary assistant

Your duty/s: cleaning, caring for paitents, restraint, walking dogs,
reception...a little bit of everything, really.

Your co-workers: 7 coworkers currently, 3 of us are part-time

Pros: HUGE discounts on vet card and meds! This is really the biggest reason I'm still hanging on to this job. Logan's dental was $150. Gavroche's Baytril for 2 months was $200. Those would both be at least double that, if not more, if I paid full price. Gavroche's thyroid meds cost about $11 for two months, again, it would be much more than that full price. I also get free frontline and heartgard each year from the reps. Last year I got Trifexis as well.

Cons: My coworkers tend to act like they're in high school, despite most of them being older than me. Most of them are bigoted and not trustworthy. They like to act nice to get their way, then turn around and stab you in the back. They're also exceedingly lazy. I cannot be myself there at all. Only one person that works there knows I have a service dog, and she only found out this week, quite by accident (though she was VERY accepting of it, and I appreciate that more than words can say...unfortunately, I doubt most of my other coworkers would be like that...they might surprise me in the end, but I guess we'll find out when the time comes). I also don't feel like I'm valued, especially when the office assistant complains that I can't work as much since I'm working at the zoo, so other people have to work overtime (which means they have to pay more money to their employees, for shame). Ya know what? NOT MY PROBLEM. The zoo is way more important to me. I've been working at the vet clinic for over 6 years, and I still get treated like crap by my coworkers and my boss, but most of all by the office manager (who happens to be the boss's wife). I'm also the only one capable of doing inventory. I've been trying to teach someone, ANYONE, how to do it for the past 3 years, and nobody is willing to learn. I guess they're going to get a nice surprise when it finally comes time for me to move on (my goal is to be out of there in a year or less, but we'll see).

Favorite thing about your job: I only work there roughly once a week now. And cute dogs. But mostly that I don't work there much. Oh, and since it's Christmas time, there is a ridiculously large amount of food on the counter, including the most amazing chocolate cake you've ever eaten (given to use by someone who doesn't even have pets anymore. She just still like to bring us stuff). Some of the clients make it worthwhile, and those people are amazing and wonderful, but for the most part, I just want to be done.

-----------
Job 2
Your position: Education weekend assistant (basically, a zookeeper for the education animals, but I do other stuff too)

Your duty/s: Care for the education department's animal collection - food water, clean cages, enrichment, etc.

Your co-workers: There are a few of us that are part-time and a few that are full-time. We also have volunteers, docents, interns, practicum students...I haven't actually met EVERYONE in our department yet. There are two of us that alternate weekends, and she goes to school with me. There's another guy that does education programs and birthday parties throughout the week, and he also goes to class with me. They're both fantastic people and I love most of my coworkers. It doesn't feel like a really close family yet, but it's starting to get there. I've been there about 4 months. I can be myself around these people, there's no reason to hide anything. Everyone there knows I have a service dog (though he doesn't come to work with me - animal care). If they don't, it's just because I don't spend much time with them and it hasn't come up yet.

Pros: Um, EVERYTHING? I seriously freaking LOVE this job. It's exactly what I want to do. I get to do a bit of everything, which is awesome, because it lets me get a feel for what's involved. I volunteer for different things a lot specifically to get that experience, too. I haven't done an animal transport yet, but I'd like to. I just need to find out about one early enough and on a day I can actually do it. I get experience with a variety of animals, too - reptiles, amphibians, mammals, invertebrates - that just doesn't happen in most departments.

Cons: It can be a bit slow on weekend afternoons when I'm manning the front desk instead of doing animal care, but I manage. This past weekend my classmate the educator was there and since neither of us had anything to do we were mostly chatting about classes, the future, etc. I can't really think of anything I hate about this job by any stretch. It's not full time, so that's a con. It's not in the pacific northwest, so maybe that's a con lol.

Favorite thing about your job: Animal care, specifically enrichment. I also like keeper chats/animal encounters, field trips, and...well, pretty much everything.

This job has made me 100% sure that I'm finally on the right track. I used to volunteer at the zoo, then stopped because I didn't have time. Screwed around a bit, got a degree, then decided I really, REALLY missed the zoo. I went into the Zoo Science program, got a VERY warm welcome from some of the staff that I used to know back when I volunteered (including the woman who is now my boss, and was my teacher for my first semester). I'm just so freaking thrilled to be working at the zoo again. It feels like home, and it feels so right.

Company's Name:Rather not say
Your position: Shipper/receiver stock person
Your duties: Lots of computer work, we deal with a lot of news and tv show's. We fix their computers, so a lot of e-mailing back and forth as to what is under warranty or not.

Your co-workers: We are a small shop, we basically do the repair work for a much larger company located elsewhere. There is only 9 of us and I am the only female. Years ago, my husband used to be the manager of these guys at another facility so i am in a way still treated like the boss's wife and that has it's pro's and cons.

Pros: I can make my own hours and come and go as I please. pay is pretty good and it's only a 15 minute drive from home.
Cons: Wish I had at least 1 other female to work with. My last job I had a mixture of men and woman and we had a lot of laughs. The building we are in is currently under construction so sometimes that can be a pain, dock doors open and it's pretty cold in there. Also some of the equipment is pretty heavy so it is sometimes a struggle receiving them.

Favorite thing about your job: The hours and pay.

Your position: Geoscience technologist

Your duties: Database managing, project managing/updating, computer support for the geologists, data collecting, presentation making, data loading, weekly maps and reports, fixing printers, organizing floor parties, in general just all around support for the professionals.

Your co-workers: Mostly awesome. I've moved around a lot so gotten to work with a lot of people. I've really enjoyed all of them and made some good friends. There's a few really eccentric people too.

Pros: I do enough different things that you never can predict what the day is going to bring. My coworkers are awesome. There's always something to learn. I love the graphics side especially and creating presentations that I never have to present. And I make a good salary with full benefits. And I get every other Friday off.

Cons: We're either really really insanely busy or we are dead. End of the year lately and we've dropped rigs which means it's kind of slow. the busy days are absolutely awesome but the slow days can drag. The hours are also long although I could shorten the hours and work every friday but I think the longer hours are worth it for extra days off.

Favorite thing about your job: co-workers and pay
