Summer's teeth are getting nasty again. She just had a dental this July though so they shouldn't be so bad, but they are!

I'm really at a loss of what to do. She refuses raw bones, but she chews bully sticks a lot and hooves. Nothing seems to work to clean her teeth, they're disgusting looking. Help?

Do you brush them? I try to brush keelys teeth once daily because yorkies of course are prone to bad teeth and They are flawless so far.

Jules' teeth became clean (aside from two spots of tartar on his upper canines, which we are working on) with mostly raw bones. Ribs and lamb shanks are his favorites. But there are always a wide variety of chews available, as Grimm's head will pop off if there aren't any. So we keep bully sticks. moo tubes, those weird ligament pieces, etc around. Bruhing would be great, but I'm horrible and would never remember to brush the dogs' teeth

Do you brush them? When I had a dog I brushed her teeth every night and they were FANTASTIC. Whenever I was away from home my parents WOULDN'T brush them and they would start getting yellow and nasty.

(This reminds me, I really need to find a way to start brushing my cats' teeth.)

She really hates the tooth brush with a passion. She hides if I bring it out so we don't brush them that often.

It really sounds like thats the only way thouugh..
    Do you use tasty toothpaste?
Reintroduce her to the toothbrush.. Put a toothbrush in her bowl at mealtime. Give her treats and stuff with it in your hand.. All that jazz :)
Keely used to run away from it too.. Now she runs for it!

Definitely buy liver or salmon flavored toothpaste, not the malt, generic, or mint flavors. My dog looooved the liver flavor. I started off just letting her lick it off the brush. :)

Hey, Laurelin, I've been happy with Oxy Fresh's Oral Pet Solution. You can either add it to the drinking water or use it as a rinse.

Most of mine keep clean with raw bones. Unfortunately there are a few Ougs that are not into chewing :(
We use the water additive, it works well and has no taste so they have no idea your putting it in.

Love the ideas given here for adapting the dogs to a toothbrush!

Can you get the enzymatic toothpaste for her? That way you don't need the toothbrush, as you just put it on her teeth and it does the work. It also tastes yummy for them

I brush my chis teeth every night with enzymatic toothpaste and a toddler toothbrush. I refer to it as "toothbrush treet," and everyone except for Rylie gets excited about it.

We also use Petzlife gel, and they get things like bully sticks and raw bones to chew on. Their teeth are in really good shape.
