How old is he? I remember Rocky did it a little when he was younger-- but... that's weird.

    That remind me: neuter time.

Are you doing some of that NILIF? I would go ahead and tell him "no" firmly, but not harshly.....and remove him from your leg. Give him a command to sit, then down and praise for that. Start showing him you're the one that sets the rules. That can be a behavior that says that he is all that. Do work on obedience skills and a little bit of that nothing in life is free. Here's a site on that: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/nothingfree.htm
I don't think you have to take it to the extreme and do every single thing, but do some of it along with obedience practice. Let that dog know that you control the stuff he likes and needs (food, treats, toys, attention) and he'll respect you more. Read about it. It should help.

Humping actually is not always sexually oriented; it's a dominance display. That's why male dogs will hump other males, and even female dogs will do it to their subordinates. Sounds like the pup is just trying to figure out where he fits in the household.

I agree with doberluv: you need to step up your pup's training. Nothing harsh needed, extra obedience work will remind him that he needs to listen to you, and that you control the good things in life (like treat distribution!).

Like "Gempress" said, its not always a sexual thing. The puppy is showing an act of dominance.

Usually it's a dominance move used more in play between two dogs, than anything else. If my dog is just goofing around with one of her big buddies, she'll even do it. I don't make a big deal about it as it is an occassional "thing" mixed in with the play.

Now, if she were to do it to me, she would get a verbal "hey" in a low tone, a firm, but not angry, "look", and I would move forward towards her...just enough to claim the space she was in while she was doing "it".

Okay Doberluv, you don't need to post that picture of our dogs at "play"!

My dogs know that I am the dominant one, from day 1, so I have never had that problem, really. Harley is always humping Alicia and her friends. It's so funny. And she gets so mad. As I say, Boys will be boys.
