So I sprained my ankle at a trampoline park tonight. >.< I have an agility trial on Friday. Ugh.

Any suggestions for making rehabbing go smoothly?

A nurse friend of mine said icing (15 on 15 off) as much as I can over the next day, totally non-weight bearing rest for 48 hours, then gradually increasing weight while using crutches.

She thinks I prob shouldn't do the trial, but knows me well enough to mention that I prob could get away with it if I ice and elevate in between runs. lol

I sprained my ankle really, really badly 2 summers ago. I did everything I was supposed to do and still didn't have full strength (and the ability to turn on one leg or run without a brace) for at least 6 months.

Rest, ice, elevation and a brace when you can get one on!

Sprains SUCK, and suck even more if you don't properly care for them.

I probably wouldn't do a trial, personally. I'd rather sit it out in attempts for a quicker/fuller heal.

Then again, I am walking around in heels with a broken ankle :p

As the reigning Queen of Sprained Ankles, I agree with your nurse friend. I have an air cast that I got when I went to the ER after my worst sprain (actually broke off a bone chip in addition to the sprain), and it really helped stabilize things so I could get around.

Luckily I already had a basic ankle brace in my first aid kit from a bout of tendonitis, so I have that on already, and some arnica cream.

I'm thanking dog that I have decent distance handling skills on Z and she's 'only' entered 3 times on Friday. I think I'll prob wait and see for now - there was a possibility that Z could finish her ADCh at this trial, so if she Qs on Friday, we could drop a couple runs on Sunday...

This for sure.
I twisted my ankle really bad on a Friday night of a three-day trial and I ran both P and Georgie the next two days. Honestly, I don't recommend it. I knew what I was doing and taped the CRAP out of my foot to stabilize it and help with the swelling just so I could run... it hurt for several months after that.
Recruit somebody else to run your dogs! I was at a trial where there wasn't anybody else to run them for me except my mom, who promptly started having a panic attack after I fell and hurt my ankle that she was going to have to run Payton. =P That wasn't going to happen so I did it.

I'm not going to have anyone run Z - there's no way someone else is getting her final Qs with her instead of me. Having someone run Kes on Sunday might be quite hilarious, though. ;)
